I love crafting started a 12 x 12 crochet block project; every month crochet a block using a different stitch and then collectively they will make up a full size afghan. It allows me to learn and master different crochet stitches. Right now its the basket weave stitch. Then any extra yarn I have I am making yo-yos for a yo-yo afghan.

Scheduled for 2014 I am collecting patterned material to make a block quilt. Im not much of quilter and this simple design introduces me to the art of quilt making.

But my hobbies are not just indoors, I love gardening and creating flowerbeds. I make mosaic steps for the garden. Planning on making some walkways with mosaic tiles too.

I have so many UFOs (Unfinished Objects ) I am making myself finish one off before I start another on. I make cards inbetween a large serious sewing project.. Present UFO to finish is a large single poppy head .I love poppies.
Going away for a couple of days over Easter but will take a Work in Progress ( a WIP )with me in case I have an hour or two to work on it.

Planning to do some serious stitching this weekend. Next weekend will be taking a class-- a pilot class for a National Teacher. So that will be a day of stitching with some good friends for a whole day.

Hi on Tuesday I grew up knitting too. My mother was always knitting. I did embroidery later with stamped designs on a table cloth and so on. I discovered counted cross stitch years later and thought it like majic, a plain piece of material yet a picture was forming. I was convinced it was for me. I love it now, I enjoy doing large projects but life changes and we have to change with it.I have slowed down now. I do other things including looking after my husband . Also we have a smaller place now so have no wall space to spare! I am making greetings cards mainly now. Its something easy I can pick up and put down, no pressure on me. I had a full day yesterday so today I hope for some ME time with stitching to hand. Its how I relax. What do you all do to help you unwind? Do tell us. Best wishes irene emoticon

Yes I have been meaning to come back and talk more about my needlework. I began stitching as a young girl. I sometimes think I was born with a needle in my hand. I began with simple embroidery and then learned to crochet and knit. Then counted cross stitch (vs stamped cross stitch) was introduced in the US by Ginny Thompson. The designs were simple charts on one page xerox copies costing 1.00 - 1.50 stitched on aida with a basic cotton floss. Now the charts are very intricate and can cost up to 35.00. Wonderful fine linens are available and the variety of threads available have exploded. About the same time I started needlepointing. That industry has exploded. I think that nothing else can possibly be done with canvas and thread and yet the designers and teacher keep coming up with new techniques that take it all to a new level.

I belong to the American Needlepoint Guild and use to belong to the Emboriders Guild-- thinking of rejoining that one. Every January I attend a seminar for a week that offers wonderful needlework classes. Yes Irene two of the English teachers come for this event as well as others that come to take the classes.

The past couple of weeks I have been sorting through and reorganizing my stash. I will come back later to talk about that and about my current projects.

Any more hobbies to share with us?
I am in a counted cross stitch club . In the last magazine I set a competition," If a good fairy offers you 5 wishes what would they be.?" One had to be about stitching, I wasnt allowing "I wish to win the lottery" either. We take that for granted.
Now the magazine editor tells me she wants the results.... like now ...

So todays hobby has to be chosing a winner from all the entries and saying why that that one appealled to me. In haste Irene

gosh - what isn't my hobby?? I love reading & gardening, cooking, baking & candy making - sigh - have to put the candy to one side for a while.

I do all kinds of crafts, knitting, crocheting, sewing, scrapbooking, tatting etc,

I guess my main hobby right now (& one I hare with my hubby) is Woodcarving. No chainsaws or life-size figures. Mostly smaller projects that I can hold in my hand or plaques for the wall. check out my spark page - I have some pictures posted there of items I've done.

Pat I bet the sock cupcakes are cute.

Irene I think Sparking can be a hobby-- as can anything you love doing.

All of my humdrum chores are done so today I get to do the last task and that is to work on organizing my needlework stash and I do have stash -- It has been referred to as my retirement plan. I have enough that it takes a really special project or class to get my attention.

I will be organizing threads, linens and canvases- this always inspires me to get busy with my stitching. so will move away from the computer for awhile and go play with my stash.

I just made a beatiful baby blanket in this great nubby pink yarn. I also saw a pattern on pinterest for some crocheted sandels for baby's they have a loop that goes around the toe and tie in the back with a flower on the front. I have to try those too. I also am making sock cupcakes. You take baby socks and roll them just right and they look like a cupcake and you put them in cupcake wrappers too cute.

I have many interests and passions. I really enjoy cooking and have for years. I also enjoy working on the yard and watching the yard become a beautiful arboretum. God has given us so many wonderful plants and I really enjoy having something in bloom during all seasons. I also enjoy studying nutrition,, politics, and history. I too, did not like history when I was a child. It was as stated earlier, all about dates and names. My faith is utmost importance to me as well.

Cheryl

I feel the greatest destroyer of peace today is 'Abortion', because it is a war against the child... A direct killing of the innocent child, 'Murder' by the mother herself... And if we can accept that a mother can kill even her own child, how can we tell other people not to kill one another? How do we persuade a woman not to have an abortion? As always, we must persuade her with love... And we remind ourselves that love means to be willing to give until it hurts...

Needle work of all kinds is my passion. From knitting, crochet, needle lace, canvas work, hardanger, just to name a few. Just wish my days would allow even 30 minutes to work on one of the many projects that I have started and in my to do stash-- will tell you about that later-that will be a true confession.

I also enjoy reading. Do not have a lot of time for that either.

Making cards and bookmarks are wonderful treasures for those who receive them. I am sure that they will keep them always and you will have a special place in their heart. I know others who make blankets for crisis centers and it is an admirable thing to do.

I make cards and gifts using rubber stamps. I also scrap book some. I have recently taken up crocheting. I am not very good at following the patterns yet so I have just been making baby blankets to donate to a crisis pregnancy center I volunteer at. I also do some counted cross sticth but again I am not very good so I just make book marks with scriptures on them to give away. I also love to read and have started doing water aerobics again after years of no exercise.

I'm trying to learn to make artisan bread. I had no idea how involved it was to get started. I've made bread for years but never tried artisan bread. We have a delicious bakery not too far from us that makes an apple, raisin,& nut artisan bread. We frequently send it as a gift at Christmas. It's yummy. Bread is so good with soup or stew. Anyway that's what I'm into right now.

What a varied selection of interests . As my name shows one of my hobbies is Counted Cross stitching. I love to do large pictures but am fast running out of wall space now. I find it easier just now to do cross stitched greeting cards. Easy to pick up and work on for even few mins. .Would you believe I am working on Christmas cards now with a stained glass window theme. I hope to sell some for charity so am building up a show album now.

I am into several things all to do with exercise. I go geocaching, just google it, but it is really a treasure hunting game where people hide small containers and others find them with a handheld GPS. Geocaching is worldwide anyone can take part, it is great for getting out and about.
I am a walk leader with my local walking for health scheme (UK Only).
I also cycle.
And last of all for the last 20 years I have been a Letterboxer ( hidden containers with rubberstamps for the finder to take a copy. Which means a lot of hill walking!

Well I have mentioned this on my SparkPage - but I love to do woodcarving. I am starting a new carving class next Saturday where we will be carving a Bellamy-style Eagle. As soon as I get it completed (a 6 week class) I will add that picture to my page with the others I have posted there.

I like not love cooking but only when I have time which is seldom.

I did some basket weaving some years ago and still have some of the baskets. Really fun and I love baskets --- the problem was handling the reed was very rough on my hands and made it difficult to handle the silk threads I use in my needlework.

You mush take some pictures of your baskets to let us see.

I admire all kinds of arts -- I think when we have a passion we can appreciate the time and talent of others. Do not put paint or brush around me --- it is a disaster. I am amzed at what others can do with brushes, paints and make it look so easy.
