I have to admit, I drink a lot of coffee...NOT GOOD! But now that I am part of an elite group of Sparkers, I will be changing that! Today is actually day 1 for me!!! I've already had 3 glasses of water and have my water bottle in the refrigerator chilling so I don't go after the Diet Coke, which is...uh, was...my drink of choice.

I think that, although coffee is made primarily of water, it should not be counted towards the daily water intake. I believe that when they say that you should drink 8 glasses of water daily that it means just plain ol' H2O. It helps cleanse and flush you out...

I don't count my coffee as water, only my water intake.

I count water as water, coffee as coffee, and brewed green, white or black tea as tea.
Herbal tea - it depends on my mood.

You and I are on the same wavelength. If I'm thirsty, it's water all the way. Anything else won't help me get into that swimming suit I want for this Summer.

I drink 2-3 cups a day but I still drink 6-8 glasses of water a day. I never count it as water because its a diuretic and besides I put cream and splenda in it, so its more like a diet soda. But what about decaf coffee???? Is that the same.

I too only drink coffee until about 9am - then it is all water. I keep a reusable water bottle filled on the counter all day - Since I never really finish a cup of coffee (it cools too soon for me) I only drink about 10 oz in total. A wonderful 10 oz it is - starbucks french roast, ground daily at home. ahhhh

I am probably one of the biggest coffee drinkers, formerly one to two POTS per day. Since I started with spark I allow myself to drink coffee only up until my morning snack. After that- it is only water for the rest of the day.

I'm down to 4-5 cups of coffee (still too much but I'm working on it) and 10 or so glasses of water.

On the advice of a friend who is a dietitian at a hospital, anything with caffeine should not be counted as water.

In saying that she advises that herbal decaf tea can be counted as water.

I only count water as water. I then figure the water in any other item is a bonus. Drinks with caffeine are a diuretic so they actually do not help with water intake.

I count water and water only. But I am lucky in that I like water, don't drink soda's, tea only occasionally and milk. But I feel that you should only count water and not tea or coffe or diet sodas.

OK, let me start this off by telling you all, I absolutely could NOT stand water a few years ago. Wouldn't drink it, even if I was monstrously thirsty. Nope, had to be some sort of sugary drink - soda, Koolaid, iced tea, etc. But I wanted to lose weight, so... I became a water snob. Yup, bottled water. It's the only water I'll drink; I have a few favorite brands, but they're all SPRING water. And now that I'm Sparking, I make sure to get my eight glasses a day. Doesn't mean I don't also drink coffee, tea, diet soft drinks, etc.; but I get in the full amount of water, too. Coffee and tea, along with most colas and other soft drinks, have caffeine, which is not good for hydration.
Now that I have that out of the way...
You can count any liquid, especially when you first start sparking, but you need to work your way up to mostly water for hydration - just my opinion, but it's really helped with the weight loss.
Oh, for those of you who don't drink diet soft drinks but the full sugary stuff? In my thirties, I FINALLY was able to convert myself to diet soda; I lost 20 pounds in less than six weeks from that change ALONE.

Doing my best...one day at a time.

I was wondering if other Spark People count tea and coffee as part of their water intake? I know opinions vary on the web about this issue, so, sitting on the fence as ever, I count tea in with my water but not coffee (cos coffee is a diuretic and can help flush fluid from the body) whereas tea is cosidered to be hydrating. What do other people do?
