Tuesday:

1) Went for a 7 mile, very hilly run this morning. I keep thinking it will hurt more than it does, but I keep finding that 20 lbs lighter means easier runs.

2)Finally made the kids' MD appts to be taken care of the summer. 4 kids= 11 appts.

3) Did a really hard abd workout after I had already taken the run and was showered. I came back to it because I was going to blow it off.

4) asked for help from a friend and it changed my whole perspective.

5) Slowed down at the start of each meal and it helped me focus on what I was eating and feeling so I didn'rt overeat.

Going to leep doing this if it kills me. Tonight another not so great night, so I need to find 5 good things about me to keep teh spirits up.

1) Ran with my friends today, it was slow and hot, but it was good to be with them again. I realy do have good friends.
2) Turned on the AC- the kids were bugging me and it was good for all of us to turn it on. But then you stay in the room and just eat--not good.
3) I stopped eating for the night, even though I wanted something sweet in the worst way.
4) I think I posted everything I ate today, and I'm still in calorie range even though I feel like I pigged out
5) I'm still trying to stick with this. never giving up.

1) Went for a nice run on a different set of roads. Helps break up the monotony.

2) Put together a belated Father's day/birthday party for dh because I was away when they happened. He liked it.

3)Took 16 yr old DS out for an hour drive today-- he drove! (This should count for two!)

4) wrote down everything I ate today and even measured a few things I've been overestimating.

5) Taught one of the people at work how to give the meds to another patient, and I was patient, and reassuring.

Had dd's graduation party tonight, didn't do too well. So I'll pick up the pieces and tomorrow's a new day. Everything you did right, daisy, I did wrong.

1) went for a 20 mile bike ride with dh

2) ate a small portion of breakfast and drank water

3) had two huge helpings of graduation cake, but hey, it could have been three!

4) Lost enough weight last week that if I did poorly today, it's not going to ruin my life in the big picture

5) got on to post my 5 things even though I ate too much and feel too full. Just becauise I blew it one night, it doesn't make me a failure.

1) Traded the stroke wrap at breakfast for something more healthy.
2) Despite the fact it was hot, went biking for 20 miles.
3) Went to a birthday party and ate small portions and didn't obsess over a piece of cake.
4) Ate a high fiber cereal for dinner because I ate at the birthday party.
5) Stopped by the grocery store on the way home so I could avoid eating out. Wound up eating cereal instead, but we have dinner for tomorrow.

I find this a real challenge. Not really because I'm so negative about my life/self that I can't find 5 good things to post, but probably more because I've become complacent about how good my life really is, but here's today's effort....

1) I'm grateful that I was chosen for my new job (start in 3 weeks) - today at work, it was reinforeced WHY I'm grateful!

2) Haven't been at work for a few weeks (I'm casual), and people asked if I'd lost weight. They weren't CERTAIN, but noticed enough to ask.

3) Sent off today what is probably the FINAL version of My Workout Schedule to my best test-bunny - BIG sigh.

4) I'm delighted to hear the sounds of my girls & a friend playing Wii - 12-yr-olds who still sound like children (having innocent fun).

5) Whilst at work, DH planned dinner, did the groceries, & researched prices/information about Playstation 3 as our loungeroom DVD player has died.

1) Didn't let a lousy situation at work get me down. Just did research and concentrated on doing my job better.
2) Went to Jiu Jitsu class.
3) Didn't do as well as I wanted in Jiu Jitsu, but I didn't let it get me down. I showed up and did my best.
4) Made time to stop by the store to make sure I had something for a healthy dinner tonight and healthy snacks for tomorrow.
5) Got more comfortable posting questions on a techie web site.

Ok, back in business.

1) Weighed in today, lost over 20 lbs total since I joined in March, and 4 lbs in the last 2 weeks.

2) Went for Bobby's cardiac workup today, everything is "excellent", says the doc. I wasn't too nervous this time (yeah, right!)

3) Told ds I wanted him home for dinner even though his girlfriend is competing for time with me. Stuck to a boundary I needed, he had dinner here, now I'm happy and he can go over there with no resentments from me.

4) Stopped at 1/2 cup of delicious ice cream and only one oatmeal coconut choc chip cookie that I made last night.

5) I've been working SO HARD to get this weight off, and it's working, and I'm pretty darn proud of having never quit trying. That's how it all happens.

Congrats on the job SteppinStrong!

1. Rather than get upset that I didn't get up for my workout, let my body rest and slept in. June is a rough month with allergies.
2. Even though I felt lousy and that's when I run for comfort food, walked away from the chocolate in the candy bowl at the reception desk. Several times.
3. Office was cold once again but instead of heading for the hot cocoa / fake latte machine drank a cup of hot echinechea tea.
4. Planning ahead before grocery shopping this weekend to come up with a budget friendly and healthy grocery list.
5. Stayed under my calories!

3. Took my Mom out for a few errands.

4. Working on making some homemade yogurt in the crockpot as it will be ready tomorrow morning.

5. Made a healthy stir-fry with chicken, onions, broccoli, red peppers, carrots, tomatoes, and added whole wheat rotini.

Way to go SteppinStrong! Best of luck to you on your new job!

1) Went for walk today on lunch hour. I'm learning every 100 calories counts.
2) Learned a cool trick on my job to work around some balky software.
3) Realized while packing a spinach salad with my lunch that it is a habit I now can't do without.
4) Will either bike ride or go to jiu jitsu tonight.
5) Realized my day is not complete unless I can put in cardio minutes along with my food input.

Congrats on the job Steppingstrong!

5 things is a little much.. I'll start with 2 or 3. A couple of them are things I DIDN'T do. :-)

1) Took an email at face value, didn't try to read too much into it and, as a result, didn't get angry.
2) Didn't get pissed at my husband for turning his nose up at what I cooked for dinner. Looks like I have lunch tomorrow.
3) Learned some things related to my job so I can do it better.

Thanks Lauren! It's been hard work but definitely worth it! Now I have to figure out how to keep at this as this is so new for me.
Some of you have been accomplishing some awesome things! Keep up the great work!

5 things for today:

1. Helped my son to purchase a car. I'm not sure if this is a good thing or not!! Purchasing a car is always scary!

2. Took a 2.2 mile walk around my block. This was probably to clear my mind from the car purchase!

3. Washed all my hockey gear along with laundry and hung it all outside.

4. Had salmon, potato and broccoli for dinner along with banana pudding and blueberries for dessert. Also had a few almonds and a square of dark chocolate----getting those antioxidants in!

5. Turned down chocolate cake with frosting and resisted buying "junk foods" at the grocery store.

Some days I find this thread difficult and back-out without posting, but I'm going to make an effort.

1) Put myself ahead of the house and did my workout before starting any chores.

2) The workout was 70min, cardio + weights

3) I'm feeling good after too many days of blah.

4) Dinner was SUPER healthy - a boring mush of cabbage, capsicum (bell pepper), mushrooms, tomatoes, onion, & 2 eggs; I'm not a 'foodie', so boring is fine.

5) Kept off-line all day, doing chores listening to podcasts (science & philosophy today); learning whilst being productive makes me happy. :)

TRISH - Congratulations on the pants!!!

Monday-
1) graduation party here for dd-- she actually looked happy and talked to me. Well, a few words is better than nothing. I ate just a litttle and had a very small piece of chese cake.

2) packed very lightly for flight. What do I really need to climb mountains

3) Thanked a friend for something they said that made me feel really good.

4)Invited my parents over even though I did NOT want to see my mother.

5) put on a pair of pants I bought in the winter, they were pretty form sitting then, but tonight they were so baggy I almost didn't wear them. I had to leave my shirt out, not tucked in, because it made it less obvioius how big theywere. (That's a first, huh?!)

5 things for today (Sunday)

1) Ran a race and placed 8th in my age group, keeping a 8.3 min mile pace. Yahoo!!! Didn't think I could do that anymore!

2)Made sure I told everyone around me who raced slower that they did a great job, without saying anything about how I ran. *I* knew it, I didn't need to brag.

3) Didn't over eat today, which wasn't too hard in the morning because I felt sick to my stomach from nerves, but a few hours after I wanted to eat everything that wasn't nailed down.

4) I felt proud of what I did, instead of telling myself I could have done this and that better.

5) Ummm...um... gets difficult here. #5. Um... Man, good thing I didn't make this "10 things", lol. How about I worked really hard to maintain my ability to run like that, despite what life has thrown at me in the last 10 years.

Yeah, I can live with that.

Artcher-- A foot long at Subway and you still stayed in range for the day? That's terrific! I'm impressed with Subway these days. More impressed that you didn't go over the edge after car shopping with your son. We're about to enter that stage ourselves.

Tracey-- yay to the alcohol consumption and geting to bed on time. Did you work out the next day (today?) I think it's great that we can say we look good. Sometimes that's a very hard thing for us to admit.

Ok, mine for yesterday, which was a very touch day. (See Chit Chat post)

1) I worked full time nights for 2 years, and just now part time, to pay up front cash for two private school tuitions. That's something to be very proud of.

2) one of those schools is top notch for kids with learning disabilities. If Bobby were not in that school, he's be left behind, and given up on. He would have been treated like a "high functioning mentally retarded" child, and set into a vocational track for his life. I fel like at the school he's in, he'll have a much more independent, full life. That's also something to be proud of.

3) I may not be as thin or as accomplished as my friend, but I *have* managed to keep athletics in my lfie despite 4 hours of commuting every day, working nights, and having 4 kids.

4) In the past 5 years since I've seen her, I have: found out my son hadn't heard much for his whole life, (Due to medications they had to give him during his 4 open heart surgeries), taken my son out of one school where he was not being taught. Homeschooled him for the next year. (Try working out during that!), got him into a private school that we loved and he did well, only to be told at the end of the year that he couldn't go back, went into panic mode when we thought there were no other options, gathered all his neuropsych, psychoeducational, medical, and educational records within a week and managed to get him into the best school on the east coast for LDs.

5) Even though I'm 50, I ran 14 miles the other day, have a 7 mile race today, bike 20+ miles 2 times/wk, swim a mile about once or twice a week. So though I don't have the money or the time to committ to organized triathlons, I AM doing them every week! No rewards, no entry fees, no fan fare, just a little self satisfaction. And considering I have managed to do all of that WITH all I had going on in my life, it makes me a World Class, Ultra Distance Triatlete!!!

There. I fel better now.

Thanks Runner! It's been hard work, determination and a change in thought process. I've really tried to set it in my mind that this isn't a "DIET", it is a lifestyle change. Playing hockey has certainly helped.

Here's my 5 for today!
1.) Went car shopping with my son---Yuck! Not fun, but at least an accomplishment. Didn't find one yet, but we are getting educated on what's out there.

2.) Went out to lunch at Subway with my son. I did have a foot-long, but did count it in my nutrition tracker. I had water to drink.

3.) Went to church with my mother.

4.) Played an hour game of ice hockey. I scored 4 goals!!

5.) Stayed within my calorie range, drank enough water and made sure to have my serving of chocolate today!

Ok, gonna give this a whirl

1. Even though my quads were so sore yesterday it was tough to sit down, I still got up and had a good work out.

2. Let myself relax a bit today as far as calories and enjoy time with old friends. Didn't want to be thinking about "am I eating too much" and obsess the whole time.

3. Held my alcohol to 2 drinks and left at a reasonable hour so I could get up in the morning to work out.

4. Feel pretty darn good about how I look today :)

5. Vow to get better at this 5 things thing!

1) went for a nice long slow and easy walk along the shoreline in the town where BObby goes to school. It's drop dead gorgeous there, very very wealthy area. I took some beautiful pictures (I gota DSLR camera about a year ago and I'm stll trying to learn how to use it.)

2) didn't polish off the box of cookies again, but I did get into them :(

3) Had my review, all good reports, but still no raise for the second year in a row. I guess I should be thankful I have a job at all.

4) Stood my ground with my kids that I will NOT be running them all over creation this summer, and that they are quite capable of walking most places they need to get to. These kids are so used to being carted everywhere!

5) One good thing about me-- I need one today. Let's see--At least my two son's love me...

1. I've started doing my cardio/strength again, on top of my pilates.
2. Although I'm up from my goal weight, it's only a little, and could be much worse!
3. I've been eating fairly healthy foods.
4. We've been so busy at work, we all got RAISES.
5. The sunshine and warm weather is helping me motivate again.

Doing my best...one day at a time.

Here are my other two for the day..
4) ate too many cookies, but stooped before the bag was empty.

Learned from eating too many cookies (too much concentrated sugar) that too many cookies give me smelly gas.

*Sigh*

I really like the idea of this thread!
I want to start early as well, to keep my mind focussed on NOTICING positives throughout my day.

1) POS: I have a job interview today, for a good school that my children attend.
2) Dinner for children = home-made pizza, ok.
___Dinner for me = leftover (home-made) minnestrone, better!
3) Only food close to junky - 2 sqrs 82% dark choc.
4) It isn't raining - 1st time in more than week.
5) DH is away (sad), but one DD always comes in with me (happy).

Ok, even though it's early in the day, I'm making a post so it comes up in my "recent postings" list and I won't have trouble finding it again.

I'll only do what I can and add to it later.

1) went for a swim. I'm tired from running and walking yesterday and it's just as important for me to take a rest day (swimming is rest to me) as it is to work out.

2)I'm making something creative - a plaque for one of Bobby's teachers. This is good two ways - doing somethign "fun" - cutting, pasting, calligraphy, putting in a photo - is all artistic and creative. I get too rigid and locked into routines and workouts sometimes-- this is good for me, AND it's a great personal gift to give to a teacher.

3)I saw someone really obese walking today-- kind of just standing. This morning I woke up fighting food thoughts, and when I drove by this guy, I just wondered-- what happens that we get that way? Do we give up? Is it just too hard at some point? No support? No hope? Is our society too hard to fight against? I just wonder...and it made me sad to imagine the scenarios. Now the guy could have just dropped 100 lbs and be happy, and I have no way of knowing that, but it made me think. Anyway, when I came home, again, it stopped me from wanting to eat and I slowed down and appreciated where I am for once instead of always living in the future of that perfect place I want to get to-- when it doesn't exist anyway.

The other two later. Thanks for doing this Dawn.

Trish

Thanks to Trish (RUNNERHI) for letting me steal her idea.

Here's where you can post five accomplishments about your day, or five positive things that happened today, or a combination. This is a great way to remind yourself of all the great things you've done.

Doing my best...one day at a time.
