Interesting! I didn't realize that chia seeds (unlike flax seeds) don't need to be ground for your body to absorb them. Thanks for the info - I'm going to try this.

I make a pudding with chia seeds and water (or some coconut milk for a decadent treat), a touch of honey, a splash of vanilla. So yummy! Not too sweet but filling.

I use Chia seeds everyday. The benefits far outweigh the calories. I personally don't even count them towards my daily calorie intake. Initially I ate them dry and drank water behind them. I found out that I have a fuller effect if I soak them into a gel.

I saw this post yesterday and went out to buy them at my local Wholefoods Store. I brought Raw Power Go Chia Organic Raw Chia Seeds. The label reads 1tbs 70 cal, Carb-7g, fiber 6g, Protein 3g, fat 4.5. Are these numbers right? I thought 70 cals was alot. 1pound bag was $12. I sprinkled some on my salad. I also had a small beef barly soup but I didn't sprinkle in my soup. I did feel a difference. I was not hungry when I got home for dinner and has a small bowl of kashi cereal to gets some food in. I hope these little guys do the trick. My issue with the last 6 pounds I would like to lose is that I am always hungry even though I think im eating the rights foods, its hard to stay inside my calorie count. emoticon

I soak chia in juice for 20 minutes or so and drink them.
I got started with a similar product at Whole Paycheck :-)
Looked at the receipt again that night, decided I could make a cheaper version, so I did.

I would add 5 cal to daily totals per tablespoon. It is probably high but accounted for.

I'm glad I saw this post about chia seeds. I ordered them some time ago, I only used them a couple of times when I first got them. I think they made me feel fuller. I'm going to start using them again. I learned of them from a woman whose son is in the military. Her son told her they are a good source of nutritiion if you are out in the field all day and you aren't going to be able to stop and eat. He would carry chia seeds with him and use those.

I buy mine on Amazon.com. They are cheaper than going to a health food store.

I'm the same way! Especially around that time of month......just can't get enough to eat! So far I've done great this week without cheating. Plus, I have been smoke-free for over two weeks now! I will be glad to get more chia seeds tomorrow, as I ran out yesterday.

Glad to hear "so far so good". KEEP IT UP!

Yes, I could use buddy support. I'm struggling on day 4...hungry, but don't want healthy food...craving stuff I should not eat. So far so good though.

Just saw your post. Chia seeds have no calories! I take three tablespoons with water a day. That is the only way I can get them down. Thanks for responding. I could also you a support buddy......if you also need one.

I bought some recently but haven't used any yet. I planned to put them in plain Greek yogurt. I need to check how many calories they have. Good to know they help you stay full....I didn't know that.

For my midday snack, I eat chia seeds because their unique gelling action keeps you feeling full for hours. Helps your body think it is full, without adding calories! Both the gelling action of the seed, and itís unique combination of soluble and insoluble fiber combine to slow down your bodyís conversion of starches into sugars. If you eat chia with a meal, it will help you turn your food into constant, steady energy rather than a series of vicissitudes that wear you out. Chia is the richest plant-source of omega-3 oil. Chia's protein is complete to raise your energy levels. The combination of complete protein, vitamins, minerals and blood-sugar balancing gel all work together to make sure you have steady, never jittery energy. Chia is also extremely high in antioxidants. Finally yet importantly, Chia has more calcium than whole milk. It also has magnesium and boron, essential trace minerals used in the absorption of calcium and other vitamins. By balancing your vitamins and minerals with chia, you can curb cravings that might tempt you.
