Lol, we are. Perfect timing for the challenge too. Great that you started hooping. 10 minutes is really a good start. I love my long sessions but I don't get them very often. Some days it seems hard to fit the one minute in.

The freezer REALLY needed it. I usually don't let it get that bad, but it is done now. I had a wonderful hoop dance session. It was so much fun. It has been a while since I had a good hoop party. It lasted two hours.

Today we had two of the grandkids. We took them on my favorite trail by the bluffs. We really enjoyed it. Then we watched the Nascar race and had popcorn. We tried standing on our heads. I did pretty well even though I didn't get all the way up. DH was so surprised. He laughed so hard. It was a fun day. After they left, I got my LED hoops out and started dance hooping. It was great to just relax. I hooped danced for about an hour. Oh, I LOVE my hoops.

Good for you. You will get there. Just enjoy your one minute until it happens. Thanks for letting me know you are getting in your 1-minute. I have been so busy I haven't taken my 1-minute and had pretty much decided to skip it. Thanks to you, I will do it right now.

Yey! I am getting my 30 Day streak in place too. I need to put an emphasis on my streaks. It is such a good tool. I shall see how I do this month with it. I can't believe we are in the last quarter of the year. Yikes. I am hoping the 30day streak page will keep me aware of how time is flying.

I have my 30 Day Streak(s) in place:
At least one minute of hooping each day
15 minutes sewing, or cutting, or pinning each day

Now to finish up the rest of my plans for October (and beyond).

Yey! That is a great start! It has been a while and it is the habit of grabbing that hoop. It all adds up. Good job!

Monday I had a great session. Tuesday was so busy, I didn't get to it at all. Tonight I did one song before the biggest mosquitoes started making supper out of me. I had to come back in the house. We are supposed to have highs in the 70s in a couple of days. It should be GREAT hula hoop weather.

We are starting a one-minute hula hoop challenge. This challenge is to get us to consistently hoop each day. It is one minute and hopefully, once we start, we will go a bit longer when we can. It gives us an excuse to show up. That is the hardest part.

Fran, I know what you mean. It is hard to get to hooping because everything else seems to be demanding our attention. Hooping is just fun. Oh, but it is so much more. When we tap into that precious flow it relieves STRESS, helps us focus, gets our muscles moving, and helps us feel happier, plus so much more. It is hard to realize these things are waiting for us until we start taking time for our hoop. I find it helps my day so much if I will hoop for one song in the mornings. It changes the tone for the day to put on a fast song and jump into an energetic dance. I also find when I am about to work on something that takes a lot of focus, to do a couple of sexy songs. Take just a few minutes in the afternoon or night to just unwind with a few songs. It doesn't take much time but it keeps you in the habit and the flow. Then you will start noticing the benefits the hoop brings. I hope this helps. It has helped me just talking about it. I really needed that because it is very easy to have other things stomp out simple. fun things we need.

That is great you are going in both directions. Most of the time, I only hoop dance the moves I know. If I try to add new tricks too often, I lose my passion. Your body and mind will tell you when you need more of a challenge. Have fun!

I did some waist hooping today, on both directions, it was fun! Sometimes not trying tricks is more relaxing :)

Hooping under the full moon must be a great experience!

Sorry I have no idea which flow thing I followed the other day, but it wasn't too long :)

Today there wasn't class, I am sad (obvious reasons) and relieved at the same time ( I was knackered and it was my turn to cook dinner... cooking has been a bit of a nightmare: I am following a meal plan, my boyfriend isn't and with different meals comes more work).

Tomorrow is my day off, so I hope that I can squeeze in some hooping, although I also hope it will be sunny and I will get to leave the house for a run in the park!

Last night I hooped under the full moon. It was so nice. Still very humid but 9:00pm is doable. I was dripping with sweat. It was nice. Then DH and I sat there talking until 11:00. It was very nice.

Good for you. Which one did you do?

Yesterday I only got one song. I could tell the difference. This morning I got 45 minutes. It is really nice. It is a great start to my day. Still trying to figure out when to fit in exercises. I am aiming for 10+ minutes of exercise. I figure I should be able to sneak that in sometime during the day.

This morning I exercised and then my SIL came over for a visit. It was really nice to see her. Then I started working around the house. I could tell my spirits were down so I kept pep talking myself and tried a meditation (which was nice) but nothing seemed to really boost me up. Finally, I turned on my tunes and hooped in the living room because it was so hot outside. Soon as I started I felt myself smiling. It is magical. I only did about 3 songs but it was enough to show me this MUST become a high priority on my daily to-do list.

One song is enough to keep you going. Especially if you take that song as flow/playtime to just relax. You are doing well. I am so glad you are still taking the hula hoop classes. That sounds so fun. I totally get how hard it is to make time for hooping. You always stay so busy with very interesting projects. Keep us informed of all of them. I bet your German is coming along really well.

I did my class yesterday (a lot of passing on the shoulders). Other than that I am not at all practicing, I love it, but I am maybe to focused on other things right now (pilates, running, German) to make the time.

I like the idea of a single song: it seems to me that I am only drilling and repeating, but never in a flow... Working from home isn't helping with space (I have the little room, which is more quiet, but it it so hard to hoop in it)

I noticed that Deanne Love started 100 days of flow on Instant Gram. Just showing up for herself and showing herself some love. I thought that sounds like a great practice. I am going to try to do this. Wish me luck. It seems I don't allow myself to take the time to hoop every day. I would love to be more diligent at this. Hope you join me and share your practice. Any suggestions on how you make your hoop time a priority is much appreciated.

I was looking at a really smooth hooper and she made a comment that she practices between an hour to 3 hours/day. I was curious about how much time you are able to practice and if you have a structured practice or if you just play and do whatever you feel like? I usually play between one minute to an hour. I usually do whatever I feel like doing. Sometimes it is learning a new routine, sometimes I do a workout, a lot of times I drill moves, but most of the time I just rock it out with dance. That is probably because I am not as regular as I would like. Any suggestions on getting to your hoop more regularly?

I pulled out my 30-inch polypro and started playing with it. Especially in my exercise room. It has 8-foot ceilings and a ceiling fan so height is a problem. It was fun trying to keep it close to my body and not very high. It was a challenge but I am pleased to say no ceiling fans were hurt in this practice. I decided to take it outside for a bit and try the body wrap and what I could follow it up with while inflow. I really enjoyed the practice of changing it up a bit. What can you change it up with? Music, steps, surroundings? New trick or try faster, slower, whatever you can think of can be a fun challenge and give your hooping a lift. Have fun and happy hooping.

Announcement: I managed to knee hoop for some minutes on Tuesday! (I was wearing shorts, though, so it was easier :))

Thanks for the info DJ. I have a polypro that is around 35" and I wanted to try to make a 30-32". I'll see what I can do with the left over material I have!

Congratulations Fran! I am happy you are getting more time. Sometimes if you get stuck, just practice where you are now or even take a few days off. You are expecting a lot of new, hard tricks. It is okay to work on all of them as long as you don't pressure yourself too much. Keep some playtime because it can get very frustrating if you are only working on tricks. I also find that watching a lot of videos of tricks help but mostly playing with what you are learning and just having great flow sessions keeps you in love with your hoops. My twins are 35". I have never tried anything smaller but would love to. See how much you have left and then decide if it is enough to make two or not. I think it is so cool you made your own. Let us know what you decide.

Last night I decided to go to a park so I grabbed my LED twins and so glad I did. I had a blast. It felt so nice to be in a new setting. It was GREAT!

DJ, I am back: I had another German exam, so lately I spent all of my free-time studying! It's done now and I feel so free!

I am stuck on the shoulder challenge, but I'll try to progress now that I should have my free-time back :). I'm not sure I can manage to do both directions at the same time...

I am trying to improve feet hooping (sometimes I get it, sometimes not) and trying to focus on chest rolls (not so easy indoor and with a curious cat :p)

For those of you with twin hoops: what size are they? Are they collapsible? I have some tubing left and I'd like to make my own (or at least a smaller hoop just for tricks)!

That is wonderful you had a great day with family. That is a great idea to have deli things and let them make sandwiches. How old is your granddaughter? My grandchildren are 7, 5, 3, & 1. They make my world go around. I am so glad you got that late-night hoop session. It is amazing how when you think you are exhausted but grab a hoop and sudden satisfaction. I am ALWAYS amazed. It also works great on stress. There is something magical about flow. I am so glad you experienced it.

Just wanted to add this. Yesterday we had an early Father's Day celebration with family here, and it was wonderful and crazy, as it always is. We decided on a cold deli meat spread with cheeses and buns to make sandwiches, rather than the traditional grilling, along with the usual salads and sides. Our kitchen and dining area are pretty well set up to accomodate a buffet style do like this, and everyone ate inside and then wandered around the house and yard for conversation and walks with my granddaughter in her stroller ( she is ADORABLE! lol!)' etc. It was lots of fun, and people hung around until after 10 pm. So, what with the pre-prep in the morning and the cleanup afterward, I was pretty exhausted. BUT...hubby had the radio on and we were listening to a show called Afropop Worldwide, which had some fabulous Congolese music on, and as soon as I got done vacuuming (after midnight! lol) I grabbed one of my twins and just did some gentle off body dancing for ten minutes. Seriously did not think I was going to have ANY energy left, but that was a real boost. What a great way to end the day!! I highly recommend it, LOL!!

Hey, DJ, I am thrilled to be an inspiration, thank YOU for your kind words and resources and all!
I'm glad you were able to find some places to hoop, it is fun to do it outside as the weather permits. :)

Sue, I am so glad you like the links. I love off-body dance. Although I am getting to where I am enjoying the on- body better than I used to. Once I learned to step around and dance more, it became a lot more fun. You inspired me. I took my hoops and went around town to find some nice hooping areas. My favorite was a little gazebo by the river. It was perfect. Another one I found was a bigger gazebo at a park, but the rafters were in the way for my throws but I learned which spots I could throw it up and miss them. It was nice to get out. Thanks for the idea.

Howdy, all! Yes, DJ, I did get my new hoops, and I'm having an absolute blast, especially with my twins! The dance hoop is a bit more problematic, as I have to move so much faster to keep it up, so that's going to take lots of practice. But the off body fun I am having with those twins is AWESOME, lol!! Thanks for the video links, they are great!

Joanne, I hope with your busy week, you will have time to hoop a little.

Sue, did you get your new hoops?

Fran, how are you doing? We miss hearing from you.

Today I decided it was time to work on some doubles. I love The Vegan Hooper. She has mostly twin tutorials and breaks it down really well. Today I learned how to do wraps. It is the first part of this video. www.youtube.com/watch?v=XgMq

Once I get this video learned then I will learn this one: www.youtube.com/watch?v=d18g

Let me know if you try these.

Got to hoop a little today. I am so out of practice with waist hooping. It doesn't take long and I am whipped. It is funny how when you are doing it all the time, you don't think it is much exercise. I will try to work on this.

I finally got around to some hoop time. It was very nice to rock some tunes and dance with my hoops. I even did a little knee hooping and tried bringing it up to my waist. I almost got it. Talk about panting. Whew, it takes some energy. It felt so good to push for new tricks. I need to get back to trying to chest hoop. Meanwhile, it feels good just to waist hoop.

Slow and steady is good. Try both directions now. It is easier that way. I have not tried feet hooping. I often think about it but I just never have. So many things to try.

I am taking the shoulder challenge real slow (I'm still at day 6), but as someone suggested during the live class, I might repeat it to focus on the other direction spin :)

I did some feet hooping today and tosses, but none too successful, it was fun though :)

I put the 3M Grip tape on my big hoop and I went from 1 or 2 spins to 4 or 5 so I am excited. I think I want to go through the 21 days again. This time I won't be so intimidated. I really wasn't sure if I should go to the next day since I was not able to get it but each day she just had us try something new. I wasn't good at any of it but her beautiful encouragement along with her Instagram Story's encouragement that it is all about the journey, not the destination made me just enjoy each class. A lot of times I just had to laugh and then go take a break. I am going to just take my time through the classes and enjoy each one.

I agree with you, sometimes it helps to just lay it down for a while. The body and mind are amazing! They are always learning. I have totally been blown away when I just watch a lot of videos of tricks/flows and then later play. Suddenly, I do a trick and it is like Whoa! I love those moments.

Thanks for the link. I will check her out. I love all the on-line stuff available.

Oh wow, after one class I don't think I could continue with another, so kudos (do people still say that?) for that! Keep trying... But sometimes it's also good to change focus for a while and do something else: I have the feeling that even when people don't train, the body/brain are still elaborating... I tried to learn chest/shoulder hooping last spring/summer and couldn't, then again this fall, and I could only once do some spins (more by chance than for ability), and suddenly this April/May it clicked all on its own and the challenge is helping reinforcing it (and hopefully making me less rigid, more elegant!). Don't give up!

Ah, I have a facebook page to share: https://www.facebook.com/livelovehoop/ I really like her and she's making really cool classes. She has a live zoom one starting mid-June (UK time, though)

I doubled up on some of the classes so I could catch up before the next live class (Saturday night here). I am on Day 12 but I am still unable to chest/shoulder hoop. I sat on a bucket to keep my hips from joining the party and just practiced the chest movement. I can do it until I try with the hoop. Then the action just dies. It will come along, I think but I am enjoying seeing the different techniques to try. I hope your weather starts cooperating with you soon.

Joanne, I am glad you are getting to hoop. It has been raining here. We needed the rain but that puts me hooping inside.

That is great Joanne. I am sure that the weather is nicer you will get out hooping more. Maybe DD will join you. I am sure Rosie will.

Fran, I am so glad you made it to the class. My shoulders were definitely stiff. I have a large hoop. Mine is about 100cm. I am still having trouble keeping my hips still. They want to join the party. Lol. You will love Day 7. It is so relaxing. I have repeated that one several times. I have found the computer is the easiest to use for recording. I have not done anymore recording but will periodically to see progression.

That's wonderful Joanne: here it's still not that warm and terrible weather, but maybe later on I will go out in the park!

Today I was able to do Deanne Love's live class. You were right DJ, it was so great! She gave some really interesting tips. We went from waist to shoulder and from neck to shoulder and practiced also some shoulder breaks (which I can't do). I learned a lot of new things, not everything came out well, but I notice that every day I get closer to shoulder hooping properly :) The class was an hour long and now my shoulder feel very stiff, like I overused them...

As for the challenge I am at day 5, but all in all I think the the hoop size (I am using a 100cm) was the most important factor, to keep the hoop going for more than 2 spins!

As for recording, I am not doing it. I know it would be useful, but I know I'd be too self-concious and critical, so I avoid that.
DJ: I can't offer suggestions for recording, because I am terrible with cameras/cell phones for pics and vidoes. I never do them and I lack the basic skills...

Lol, I agree. I did get several short videos. I was surprised at how I didn't look confident. I did get one video that I seem to be getting into the song more. I also was amazed at how much I need to work on my posture. I know it is something that I struggle with. I thought I would try to video again just to see progress.

Deanne Love and others highly recommend videotaping yourself while hooping to see what you are doing right and what needs tweaking. It is different to see myself taped. I also am trying different ways to video. I welcome any tips on how to do it both in technology and how to get used to seeing myself.

Last week I did the first 3 days. I really am not doing well, but did not get to practice a lot. I hope to do more this week. I hope to get more time this week. I did make it to the Zoom meeting. It was GREAT. Try your best to make it next week. It was so weird that she broadcast at 10:00 Sunday morning in Sydney and it was & 7:00 Saturday night for me. That always blows my mind.

I try hoop-reading but I wobble too much. I found that the large print helps. I need to practice more.

Today I didn't, but this week I did the first 3 days of the shoulder hooping challenge and somehow it's clicking :) I could shoulder hoop for a few seconds, not gracefully, but still :)

DJ, you have to let me know where you are in the challenge

Joanne, great job for hoop-reading, which book are you reading? I tried but sometimes I get a bit "sea-sick" when I try to read and hoop at the same time...

I did day 1 of the Chest hooping challenge. I actually did it yesterday since Mon-Wed. would be so busy with grandkids. I do fine on my hips and waist but chest and shoulder are non-existent. I am hoping that 21 days will make a dent in progression.

TRUEPEACENIK: I found mine on Etsy. They aren't super quality but they are pretty. They range from $50-$100. I got mine for Christmas. I hope you get one. You will love it.

Joanne, I forget how late the sun stays up in the summer in your area. That is so strange. I bet that is hard to get to bed at a decent hour. Our sunsets are about 9:00 and it seems difficult to get supper and relax before 11:00. If it didn't go down until 11:00, It probably 1:00 am before we would be in bed.

Fran, start using them. The LED is so pretty and happy. Thanks for the info. I enjoy just seeing what everyone is offering. So many choices and creativity. Did you guys see Deanne's Love Challenge of my favorite hoop? It is gathering things that match your hoop. Some of them just make me smile. www.instagram.com/explore/ta

I need to use my LED hoop more often as well: when I got it I didn't have any tape to add more grip, so I couldn't really use it, and now that I do, I am so used not being able to hoop with it, I never pick it up...

DJ, as for the class, sorry I haven't thought about sharing the details (probably because it's at a European time), but you can find more info here: https://hulahoopin.com/ it runs until mid June, I believe :) This week we did some flow and feet hooping, it was fun, the teacher is lovely!

I have also found this challenge today (6pm London time I'm afraid, but the video shows for 24hrs): https://www.facebook.com/livelovehoop/ it's called 10x10challenge and it's fitness with hula hoop.

I would love to use my led hoops more often, but I just donít. Up here, in the summer, when it is warm enough to hoop outdoors, it doesnít get dark until 10:30 or 11:00, and therefore we canít really enjoy their full impact. They are still fun though, even without the full dramatic display, and the grandkids do love the colours!

What? That is crazy. Good for you.

Tonight I started off slow and crazy on my waist. Before the night was over, I had a rocking party of one dancing my heart out with my LED hoop. A wonderful time.

I once got a ticket (06 or so) for hooping late night in my yard. It seems dropping a hoop once in two hours was more disruption than the punk band down the street.
I fought, with decibel meters, and won. Dismissed.

I put grip tape on my LED hoops. I loved how smooth they were but I found that they would suddenly FLY out of my hand because they were so slick. I think it will give me more control for more tricks. Now I can knee hoop with them. I hope it will help the waist hooping. Waist hooping is so difficult with the smaller, lighter size. I appreciate any suggestions on how to make the transition from 40 inch HDPE to a 35-inch Poly Pro with waist hooping. I would love to find a place that you could try tons of hoops and find the perfect weight and size. What an AMAZING shopping trip that would be. emoticon

TRUEPEACENIK: It is so nice to get to know you. We are glad that you have your pain managed and are hooping again. It must be amazing to see the difference in the hooping culture in 1998/1999 compared to 2020. I enjoy listening to veteran hoopers telling how there were just a handful of tricks and now it is limitless. Hoopers keep evolving and creating. That is amazing you did fire hooping. You must have been very good to do that. Be patient while you are relearning. I find that if I have an injury or stop exercising, I am not patient with myself when I start back again. I always am saying well you used to could do ______. It will come. Enjoy not being in pain and have fun with what you are able to do. I love your encouragement. Glad you are here on our team. Keep us posted on what you are working on and especially share your successes. We would love to celebrate with you.

@SIMMONSCORNER

I started hooping seriously in 98-99. String cheese incident family.
Iím an on again, off again hooper, and we didnít have name for moves, so I feel Iím catching up there.
Iím getting back into it after a long stretch of almost debilitating pain. Itís managed now, and my attitude is no longer ďstab all the things.Ē

Iím relearning waist to hand and back down, as Iíve lost rhythm. I am fairly good and enduring with arm hooping, and off body dancing. Although that feels odd.

I hoop clockwise and counter, and I mentioned endurance before. In my 20s and 30s, I was first on the floor, last to leave. i dabbled in fire hooping. Now at 51, Iím just encouraging all the 30 somethings who say they are too old to try.
Then again, Iíve done that all along. itís just shameful to them to let an ďold ladyĒ out hoop them.

I know what you mean about so much to learn. I always catch Deanne Love's classes when she puts them on sale. They are always so reasonable. I had already purchased the 21-day chest challenge so I am going to start it again on Monday because I never had the time to go through the whole thing. I got frustrated the other time. I think I am ready to give it my all this time. I hope this time I will see some progress. I think it just is one of those areas that is not used to moving.

That is interesting that you felt more self-conscious on-line. I bet it was fun. You will have to share when you find a class offered. I haven't heard about that one. So how was it?

Have you ever felt that there is so many things too learn? I wanna get better with chest-hooping, learn other on-body hooping, isolations and mandalas! But when can I do that?!?

I read, but need to check it out that Deanne Love is beginning (this week/next week, not sure) the chest hooping challenge. I might join for consistency.

I did my first zoom hula hoop class on Monday, I don't know why but I felt more embarassed than in a real class. It was interesting, and only possible through the corona-time because the teacher lives in the Netherlands! I am so looking forward to next Monday!

The mandalas are a good workout if you do them for a while. They are surprisingly easy to do. I thought it would be harder to do since it is behind you. Give them a try. Fran, I am so happy you know how to chest hoop. I haven't mastered that at all. It drops like lead. Any suggestions that might make it easier? I would love to be able to chest hoop.

Yesterday was a busy day, but I managed to try some chest hooping! I will practice it 10 min everyday this week :)

I love mandalas, but I have not yet tried to learn how to do them!

Truepeacenik. I bet that was fun. I am sure you brightened up a lot of people's day. I have been thinking about taking my hoops somewhere, anywhere just to have a change of scenery. What are your favorite moves? How long have you been hooping? I have been hooping for about 3 years. I think my favorite move besides weaves would have to be mandalas.

Not today, but earlier in the week.
I drove to a park with wide expanses of grass so I could be far from both street and walking path.
I put on some music and hooped for 25 minutes.

I got lots of honks and thumbs up from drivers (I am about 100 feet from the road and 30 from the path), and thumbs up from walkers.
In a non social distancing world, I would have invited some to play.

Last night and tonight I have been enjoying my LED hoops. They are so pretty in the dark. It has really been a mood booster. It has been a while since I have used them. They are quite a bit heavier than my polypro hoops. It feels like a good workout while having fun.

The power of music is so special. It is funny how you can sing all the words of a song 20 years ago. I love how a song can transport you back to what you were doing then. It is hard to believe 2000 was 20 years ago. Whew, how time flies. I have been listening to the 1960s songs lately. Lol, I had to smile when I remembered all the lyrics. It still amazes me how much of a British invasion we had in the US in music during the 1960s. That music ROCKED!

You guys are doing great. Keep up the good work. Any time we spend with our hoops is a good accomplishment. In fact, I think it is time to go hoop now.
