deep cleaning my bedroom and lifted up mattresses to clean under the bed. alot of grime that is not washed and scrubbed so much with sweat, water, & soap. it was great and feel so much better with a cleanner floor that I literally sweated for.

I got rid of all my XP computer, monitor, printer, disk, etc. and some baby stuff and other things. I had a whole trunk worth. It feels nice to get rid of so much. I have to wait until the mood hits. I don't do well getting rid of one thing each day.

Thanks. I am glad my mind finally got into the game. It took really being tired of where I was and the shortcomings I was experiencing. The lady I went to the beach with yesterday reached down and felt her back act up. I really saw myself at that moment. When I do not have strong muscles supporting my back, I easily can pull my back out of whack. When it is strong, I have very little pain or imbalances that kinks my back, and just generally feel good. I feel for her because it can be painful for weeks and many times takes a chiropractor to readjust. Things like this keep me pushing myself because I can feel the difference. Now if I can just KEEP my head into the game. Especially when company comes or other interruptions come into play.

Yesterday I came home from the beach and then washed both cars and vacuumed them. I vacuumed the steps, blew off the patio, washed the hot tub cover. I was so proud of myself. Today I came home from the beach and vacuumed the pool. I love being fit.

I am still going with my Purge One Item Daily project. So far I have purged over 300 items if I were to break it down individually. I lumped several things together, such as 1 box of books - but 46 actual books in the box.
In addition to One Item Daily, I Purge two items for every new thing I buy.
By the end of the year I should have a sizeable number for a total!

I am still stepping along on my Purge-One-Item-Daily project, and I check in with the 365 Day calendar as well. That has been focusing on attics and garages lately -we have neither - but also on organizing papers; that is what led me to re-do my address book. I also de-cluttered and moved last year's bills to storage, then organized my massage receipts and submitted a claim to our provider - only 4 1/2 months late... it was such a relief to finally get it done. And our taxes are all done and paid for this year.

Next up: we need to make an appointment at the bank to review our "stuff".

Good for you. I am so proud of you. I love the old school address book. I do have a cell phone but still keep a hard copy. It has been handy to have. It needs a good cleanup. I am not sure when that will ever happen but it feels so good when things are in order. My decluttering has taken a back seat again. I hope to get back to it soon but with summer here, not sure when it will be.

While my brother was here, and I was sitting and visiting anyway, I decided to get one of the to-dos off of my de-cluttering list: I updated my address book, printed off new sheets, cut them out, punched holes, and now I have an up-to-date listing of all our family and frequently used phone numbers.
I know an address book is old-school, but I don't have a cellphone, and we have always kept a little red notebook with our frequently used numbers and addresses...
Habits! Hard to break!

It sounds like you got a lot done last week! Good going!

I am way ahead in my Purge One Item Daily project, so this week I am focusing on cleaning the two bedrooms the grandkids used last week, changing the bedding etc. I have two out of town friends coming to stay for three nights next week, and a birthday celebration to plan for one of them. It should be fun!

I got a lot of things done lately. I have started using the power of 10.
I lined two drawers in the kitchen with skid-proof matting and sorted the utensils.
I took in an apron that I had found.
Did some other mending.
I shredded a ton of paper.
Went through a bag of pens, markers, etc.
Sorted old jewelry. Cleaned off a desk. I am excited to see how the power of 10 does next week when I make it a priority. The days I used the 10-minute method, it really felt great!

Last night I figured out what to do with the photo albums for now. So I only got 4 hours of sleep. Too bad you don't get credit for the organizing you do in your head. lol. So today I ditched my dance class and cleaned out all my cooking and fitness magazines. I also got rid of a lot of my books. My trunk is full. Now all my photo albums and high school yearbooks fit on the bookshelves so I can easily get one and enjoy it. I think it will be much better than stuck away in a cedar chest. I also went through several buckets of my kid's papers/artwork. It was tough getting rid of some of it and others were just worksheets/school work. I think it will be better to have a few great pieces instead of a bucket full stuck away in a corner that never gets looked at. My corner of buckets is looking a lot better. I will be glad when I have gone through all of them. Now I have special stuff in the cedar chest. I will have to go through it again because I needed to get it put away before I was done. That is okay. I am getting closer to more enjoying and less storing. emoticon

I know what you mean. I thought I would go through some scrapbooks and trim them down. I guess I had already done it years ago because now there were just special photo albums left. It was fun looking through the photo albums, but still a lot of them. So many to scan. The pictures would have to be removed from the albums which means a lot harder to look at. Finally, I just closed them back up and I will come back to that challenge later. So overwhelming! I went through a couple of boxes of other things and a bunch of cooking magazines. I am not sure if I am overly picky or if I just have a ton of recipes but I didn't see any new recipes I had to have. So they have to go.

I opened one of my clothing drawers on Tuesday and decided to purge the drawers in the bedroom. That laundry room is just too cold! I sent several things to the donation pile in the basement, and put three medium sized bags in the trash! I had so many pairs of hose that were older than old, many with snags and runs ... and I don't even wear hose anymore. I think maybe twice since I retired, and I am coming up on five years! I also had old pjs, underwear and bras, unmatched socks and socks that I never wear.
Man it felt good to clear out all that stuff. I listed it all in my March "Purge One Item Daily" log, and filled up most of the month. I am getting ahead of myself - but it just felt so good!

Wow! You have been really productive on the de-cluttering! How wonderful that your daughter wants to take some of those items off your hands! I like the idea of the disk and the video for photos. Still I always worry about digital storage and whether the access to it might be compromised somehow. I guess that is probably just me being a Luddite. So often, technology is my nemesis!!
I see that this week's Home Storage Solutions is all about the laundry room... mine really needs some de-cluttering, as it is also one of my biggest storage areas; there are boxes and tubs of clothes, craft supplies, costumes, luggage, and of course the laundry area itself! My pantry is also there, and that needs some organizing as well! It is just so cold down there in the basement during the winter months, that I tell myself I will do it in the summer. Then I spend the whole summer outdoors, telling myself I will do it in the winter....

Today was a good day. DD and I went through some old jewelry. Much of it was my mom's from the 1940s & 1950s. I remember playing with it when I was little. I passed it on to her. She seemed excited about it. She also was excited about my girl scout uniform and some dresses from when I was little that my mom had bought from Hawaii when she met my dad for R&R when he was in the Vietnam War. Autumn almost fits into them. I feel a lot closer to dealing with all this stuff. I still have so much more, but I will get there.

BTW, DD said she would scan all my old pictures so it will be on a DVD. Then the originals could be passed on to whoever and everyone would have a digital copy. Sounds like a daunting project. She is so sweet to do that. I thought about taking a video of the pictures so I could tell who is in the picture.

I am still continuing with my Purge One Item Daily project. So far it is going along really well. I am keeping a list so that at the end of the year I can see the cumulative effects of doing a little bit each day!
Another benefit of this project is that I am really thinking twice about purchases. There is no point in culling one thing and buying two! (Says the woman who just ordered three hula hoops from Amazon...) Still, as a POID-2, I have decided that I will get rid of two items for each new purchase I make, on top of the one item daily!
Which means another list! It is a good thing I like keeping lists!

I got rid of all my old tax stuff. I decided to keep 10 years of returns, receipts etc. That is still a lot of paper! I have a box for it and each year in a separate folder, so I should just be able to put the newest one in and pull the oldest one out each year from now on...

Next big project - photographs.... oy! I don't even know where to begin! And how do I handle my family's outrage if I try to get rid of stacks of old photos?!

Today I had the whole day off. I cleaned most of the house and started working on cleaning out some books. I have so much I want to clean out. Mostly file cabinets and buckets of books/papers. I hope to completely get rid of a lot of stored stuff this year. Maybe just have a box or two of storage. Ahhh, I want simplicity.

Our library is part of a larger system, so I can borrow books from about 30 libraries in our region. I can't always get EVERYTHING I want, but there is still a really good selection. I just put my requests in electronically, and I get an email when the books are in and ready for me to pick up. So convenient.

I can u derstand you not having the motivation to clean! Take it easy and let your body heal!

I should be doing something today, but just no motivation. My rear end hurts to sit. Once I get a position that is comfortable, I don't move.

I found our library will get new staff and they will get rid of the best books and get something that doesn't appeal to me. So sad. I know that the good books were being checked out a lot. They just said that they wanted newer books on the shelves.

I am a library user and seldom buy books, so there are only about 100 books in our bookshelves - our absolute favourites, a few gifts we have received, and a few that I have picked up at the used book sale for "emergencies"! (You never know when you might not be able to get out to the library!)

You have done great. I find culling books is the hardest thing. I need to do that but I want to keep them all. Some are really well loved and on their last leg, but I still hate to get rid of them.

Wow! You really had a busy, productive, and fun weekend! I remember what an adventure my Grandmother's attic was! I loved going in there and poking around! I have never had a house with an attic myself, but we have always had a basement, and that is where everything gets stored, including all the stuff I don't really need!! Lol!
I didn't do much decluttering this weekend. I did tackle the collection of kids books we have. I culled out about 30-40 that the kids don't ever read, and found a few in the basement that I thought they might like, and brought them upstairs. I hauled a huge bag of garbage out from the basement and put it in the trash can - stuff from my Purge 1Item Daily project. This week I will take a bag of stuff and two boxes of books to the charity shop and be ready with a fresh bag and boxes for February. Bring it on!

This weekend I tackled several areas. I opened up the attic and took a few things out that needed to no longer be stored. I put away all the Christmas boxes and tree that was waiting to go back up. I also tackled a couple of other boxes that have been waiting to go through. I also changed around a couple of bookcases. I love when I get a lot of things done. I also started working on tax stuff. It feels so good to get these things done.

Joanne, sounds like the Wee is a lot of fun. I know what you mean about the counters being clear. I had to leave early this morning so I left the dishes on the counter. When I came home I cleaned them up. When I came in from outside, I really noticed the difference. It is really a nice feeling when things are under control. I know what you mean about the tax folders being a mess. That is tomorrows challenge.

I have unpacked 8 boxes: all clothes are neatly folded or hanged, kitchen supplies are still all over the place (I love clothes more than cooking, itís a fact)!

Since I decluttered my kitchen counters, I have been making a real effort to keep them clutter free, and gee! It is such a nice feeling to walk into the kitchen and see everything nice and tidy! I love it!

Right now, I am working on cleaning out my tax folders - what a mess! I just stuff everything in a folder and then stuff that in the carton! I hadn't cleared it out since 1988. Yeah. Big mess! I am shredding and recycling everything up to 2009.

I am continuing with my Purge One Item Daily project. I have decided that if I purge two hoodies, then go out and buy two new hoodies, I canNOT count that as two items purged. I actually did that this past week. Lol! I am not going to accomplish much if I continue to do that!

We play Wii bowling sometimes when the whole family is here. It is a lot of fun! Our 5 yr old Rosie is a champ at it!

Cleaned out a couple of boxes of packed away stuff. I also took everything off my desk and cleaned it up. Took away some clutter that was not used anymore. I feel really good about that.

I know what you mean about throwing food away. I hate it so I know you will come up with a plan. I do feel more in control. It has been way too long since I organized it.

We did have a lot of fun at the birthday party. It was a bowling party. I haven't bowled in 40 years. I didn't think it had been that long, but it has. It was a lot of fun.

What a feeling, Fran! I wish you every happiness in your new home!

And DJ, also what a feeling! I cleaned my freezer before Christmas, and amazingly it is still in pretty good shape! I have used up all my Christmas leftovers, except for a bit of sweet potato (for gnocchi) and some turkey meat and broth (for soup). So I have a plan in place! I know I have a few things in there that are getting old. I need to either eat them up, or throw them in the trash. I get so mad at myself when I have to throw away food!

Congrats!!! That is big. Now the fun part. Still hard work but setting up your new home will be refreshing.

I organized all my freezers. They were a mess. Now I know exactly what I have and where to find it. Next is meal plans. The weekend is full of birthday parties. Might get some time.

I did it! Everything was packed, travelled safely and is now where it should be. I cleaned my ex apt top to botton and left it empty and sparkly clean!

Part 1 accomplished, part 2 (unpacking) yet to start ;)


I so need to rest now, but my mind is still racing non stop... sigh...

Yes, moving does sound like a perfect opportunity to go through everything and do a major decluttering! I am just not sure it would be worth all the work!! I have always hated moving; I guess that is why DH and I have been in the same house for 34 years!
If I can remember back to my moving around days though, I think setting up in a new place is fun and such a nice feeling! I hope you settle right in to your new home, Fran!

I sorted my (kitchen) plastic containers and lids, as per the 365 days calendar. I also have a big box of them stored the basement. I will sort those when I get down there to the under-the-stairs cupboard!

My purge project is going really well, and DH has joined in! He is also getting rid of a lot of things!

Me too, DJ. It is so satisfying to look around and see a tidy house. I am a mediocre housekeeper, and my house definitely "looks lived in" (as my mom used to say), but I do like it when things are tidy!

I really like how she breaks the cleaning and decluttering down into little chunks. It makes it much more doable, and the amount that needs to be tackled does not seem overwhelming. I won't follow her day-by-day, but will pick and choose. I decluttered my counter. I cleaned and straightened my tea-towel drawer. I set up a series of boxes for donate-give away-sell.

I got the tree down yesterday, but am still not quite finished putting away all the Christmas stuff. That is today's big TO DO!

My Purge-1-Item-daily project is simple.
On day 1, I tossed an old pair of sweats.
On days 2&3, I put some Christmas items in the donate box.
On day 4, I gave away my mom's knitting bag and supplies. (I thought I would take up knitting, but it has been over six years and it just isn't happening....) Lots of my FB friends offered to take it all off my hands!
Who knows what will go today!?!

I am always amazed at how when life gets busy, the house gets clutter EVERYWHERE! We come in and dump then go again. My desk was loaded with papers of all sorts of papers. A mixed up mess. I got it all in proper categories now. To file, to pay, trash, to call about, to give someone else, etc. Entryway has whatever is in our hands and not needed for whatever is next, dishes sometimes just make it to the sink, the list goes on. Oh my, We are a mess at times. Which drives me crazy. I am hoping tomorrow will be a full day of clean up and maybe some hooping.

Joanne, It does feel good. I am not sure if I will follow the calendar or tackle a few corners that REALLY need to go through and diminish the stored boxes. Yikes! Life's treasures all tucked away that is not ever looked at. Oh boy! That is my project. It is funny how it can look so neat but have so much clutter stored away. Mmm. should be interesting and a bit scary. lol.

Fran, I am so glad it is a good challenge for you. I like it when the challenges line up with our goals. Then they are really useful. Feel free to make the challenge of the day what fits your mood. If the calendar fits great. Use it and enjoy it. If a box is calling your name go for it.

Hopefully, we will all be fit and our houses clean and organized by the end of 2019. lol.
