Well, I am back. My trip was a resounding success, the grandchildren are safe, and I was able to hear my daughter's testimony, which is stronger than I thought it was.

Hopefully, we will be able to get her husband converted, and her active in the church before too long.

One thing that the Lord has really been teaching me lately is the importance of thanksgiving in all things. There are only, like, a million references to it in both the scriptures and in modern day revelation. Where we are told to "pray always," it is usually followed by "with thanksgiving" I'm sorry I don't know the scripture references right this second, but they keep jumping off of the page at me, no matter what I seem to read.

I am taking a late bus to Colorado tonight to help with a family emergency that I just learned of this morning. I am thankful that it is an opportunity to be "an example of the believers" to my daughter, who is inactive, and her husband, who is a fine man, but who is not even Christian. His father believes something about God being a space alien, so he never had the benefit of proper instruction in his youth.

I could be panicked about the possibility of my daughter and her husband losing their children to the state (the crisis) or I could be a calming, loving influence while we straighten this mess out. With the Lord's help, I choose the latter!

I think the Lord has been preparing me for this emergency by showing me the references about thanksgiving in all things so that I will be able to handle this.

I'll be able to get on the inteernet there, so I'll be in touch.

Please pray for me and my family!

Wow... what great messages... thanks for sharing those. I, however, was a loser. Today was Stake Conference and I had every intention of going and when I woke up, saw a couple of inches of snow on the ground and decided not to go because the Stake Center is up a section of the freeway that gets really icy and I almost wrecked on it one time... so now I'm bummed, because I really like Stake Conferences and i really need that weekly contact to feed me spiritually. I feel kinda distant this week as it is already! I shoulda just gone *sigh*

Anyway, I'm anxious to hear more! haha

Our high counselor today spoke on families. He described a Great 8 NCAA game that was played in the Marriott Ctr in Provo, UT in 1977? and how UCLA, the favored team was ahead by 14 at the half. He talked about how their team had the support of the crowd. After the half when UCLA came in to warm up, the BYU Folk dancers were not quite finished with their halftime performance but UCLA started warming up anyway. This inconsiderate gesture irritated the crowd who began to boo and they threw their support to the underdog (I'm sorry to you sports fans out there becauses I have forgotten the name of the opposing team) but they came from behind with the cheering and support of the fans to win the game by 4 and go to the final 4 for the first time in their school's history. He spoke about how important our families are, that they are our "cheering crowd" and that with that kind of support behind us we can do anything. Then in RS, one of the couselors spoke about this talk and how it relates to a sister in our ward who has no family and no support except those few in the ward who have gotten to know her a little. This sweet woman has had an extremely difficult life w/little or no support and is struggling with all kinds of addictions. She is making real progress though, the bishop found her a job and she has been promoted to manager and has worked hard with her meager income to pay off outstanding debts. She is even paying tithing but she still struggles w/her addictions. The counselor asked us to all be this woman's "cheering crowd", to be her family, to shower her with love and support. I think this is really the gospel in action.

...maybe we could just discuss things that we learned in church on Sundays... I'm always learning little things that I didn't realize before or maybe payed attention to and then it hits me the right way and I "get it".

I titled the topic more generally, because I often learn things in scripture study or from the Holy Spirit that do not hit me right when I am in church.
