I gained a lot of weight after I was diagnosed with a thyroid problem and Celiac disease. I went from being able to eat anything at any time to not being able to lose any weight. I gained 40 lbs in about a year and have not been able to lose it. In 2005 I went through fertility treatment and the drugs seemed to have put my hormones and my body into a tailspin that I cannot control. I have gained another 20 since the beginning of 2007 after being diagnosed with Celiac. In 2017, Diabetes was added to the list of mayhem.

Along with the stress of having health and infertility issues, I have struggled with a lot of family tragedies. I lost my parents 10 months apart, both from cancer. My dad was diagnosed in April (1 week from retirement) and died in June, my mom was diagnosed 10 days before my dad passed. I was their caregiver and did not take care of myself during that time.

Okay enough with the excuses. They have been my crutch for so long. Now it is time to put them away and close the box. These things happened, they are done and they cannot be taken away.

One thing this has taught me is that I can survive many things. They have hurt, they have made me angry, they have knocked me right to my knees. But guess what? Hurts can be lived with, anger can be controlled and staying on your knees is a choice you don't have to make.

As of today, I choose to stand tall. I choose to stand all on my own. I choose to live, without excuses, without crutches, without what ifs.

I may never be skinny again, but I will be healthy. I will no longer accept having to live with my diseases. I will NOT accept what I am today. I will fix it and become the person who I am supposed to be.

I am DONE being the fat girl!
I am DONE being the girl everybody feels sorry for!
I am DONE being the girl that must learn to accept the way things are!

Hold on! It's going to be one heck of a ride!
