My name is Linda and I began my journey to get healthy on December 1st, 2007. I was so out of shape that walking, for 5 minutes without stopping , was a major effort. I began by stretching every day for 20 minutes sitting on the side of my bed. I cut out white rice, sugar, pasta and flour, replacing items with whole grain products. I cut my diet soda consumption back to one a day and continued my 5 minute walks, adding three minutes a week. By February 1st I had lost 18 pounds. I began Sparkin' on February 9, 2008.

I recently moved back to New England after spending the last twenty years living in a small town in Georgia. I am 59, have two grown children and five perfect, bright and beautiful grandchildren. I was blessed to have been given the gift of a wonderful marriage for 18 years, to a man who was also my very best friend. When he died suddenly, in 2003, I was devastated and angry at myself, at him and even at God. It was three years before I stopped feeling sorry for myself and realized how lucky I was. I had 18 great years with the right person, I have friends married 30 years to the wrong they should be angry! Anyway I ate my way through my grief and added 100 pounds to an already overweight body!!

The last time I was happy with my body was...Oh wait, I've never been happy with my body. Even when I was 18 and weighed 120 pounds, I went to a doctor who told me I was "chubby" and I believed him!! So he put me on pills to lose and lose I did. I've been obssessd ever since and no matter what I weighed, it was never "good enough". I've yo-yo'd myself up to 348 pounds.

NO MORE! Thank God I found SparkPeople. I'm in it for the health of it this time. No quick fix...It takes as long as it takes. I'm gonna take one day at a time, do what I need to do and not live or die by the numbers on the scale. In fact I am one of those "Scale Challenged" people. You know... the ones who weigh in the morning, weigh in the afternoon, weigh at night. Once I start I can't stop and that is just too much pressure. So I'm only weighing in once a month. I figure if I'm doing what I'm supposed to do and I feel better and my clothes get looser, then it is what it is. The scale has never been my friend so it is, for me, no longer a daily issue. Once a month is all I can handle.

The people I've met here have all been open, friendly and truly sincere in their desire to help. The tools are so helpful but its the people here who make it work. I need all the help I can get and hope I can help some of you along the way. Please feel free to email me if I can assist anyone in any way. It will be my pleasure to be your friend on this journey. I hope we can inspire one another along the way.

Thanks for dropping in and for listening. Have a wonderful day.

My Goals:
1.) To lose 100 lbs. this year or however long it takes.
2.) To be healthier this time next year than I am now.
3.) To be able to move more easily and not be exhausted all the time.
4.) To accept this is NOT a diet but a way of living.

My Program:
1.) Use the tools to track food & fitness.
2.) Think of food as fuel. I wouldn't put sugar in my gas tank-I'm not going to put it in my body.
3.) Vary my fitness routine. Make movement as much of a priority as my food plan.
4.) check in w/Team daily.
