Having discovered I was diabetic at the age of 53 and gaining over 3 stone after going onto insulin, I have decided that I will not let my illness control me. Although it is difficult to lose weight when on insulin, the more weight I can lose the less insulin I will need, giving me more control.

Wow, now I am 68 and still on my low calorie, low carb diet and still doing well. Might update the blog sometime soon as it is coming up to 5 years on the plan - it is not a diet as it is my way of life.

My Goals:
want to be 163 lbs but not set a date

My Program:
Besides using the food tracking on SP I also exercise on a daily basis. I am fortunate in having a swimming pool and I do try to swim daily no matter what the weather. I now follow the Blood Sugar Diet and intend this to be my way of life.

Personal Information:
I am 68 years old and have retired early with my husband to SW France. We have a wonderful life here although I miss my daughter and 2 grandsons back in England.

Other Information:
When I swim I like to listen to music on my waterproof Ipod. I don't know if I will ever grow out of it but I love people like Lady Gaga,, Maroon 5 etc and love dancing like a loony. Hope I never grow out of it.

I like reading and at the moment I am into forensic science type books, like those of Tess Gerritson, Kathy Riechs and Nikki French. Try as I might I cannot get to like Patricia Cornwall even though she is classed a the queen of this genre. My new go to author is Liane Moriaty from Australia. Loved The Husbands Secret.

How’s life in your part of France? Just started 8WBSD for hubby’s pre-diabetes. I need to lose the weight too as does he, so wish us luck!

Hi Fount, glad you too have found a diet. It is funny, I expected lots of doubters and negative comments but I haven't had any. When I say fat in my diet I am allowed natural fats like avocado or nuts but is strict quantities. He forbids the so called 'low fat' foods as they are full of sugars to keep them tasty so if I want to have a yogurt I don't buy 'diet' versions but I really can only have full fat plain yogurt and the fruit ones are full of sugar as well. I guess the devil in this diet is sugar and carbs that quickly turn to sugar, like bread, pasta and rice. I see you are on a rice diet but I will not comment on that if it is working for you. I saw a reduction in my blood glucose on about day 2 of the diet and it has remained low and I am having to decrease my insulin. Another version of this diet is the 600 calorie but that is very strict and, as your friend, should be under strict medical supervision.

Keep up the good work, and don't worry what other people say, if it works it works.
