I need ideas

Wednesday, March 12, 2008

I am having a hard time getting all the "right" or "healthy" foods in during my day. Since I am a hairdresser and that means long days and sometime no lunch or dinner or I eat on the run, between customers. I am grabbing junk food or I skip the meal altogether. I need help with ideas.

This will sound drastic, but get rid of the junk food. The first thing I did was get it all out of the house. It's not good for anybody at your house. Keep healthy snacks and quick meals handy. If I don't have much time, a half of sandwich and a cup of milk, and fresh fruit it plenty for lunch.
I do allow Raym snacks that won't temp me. I also kept a small amount of chocolate, but I count the calories any time I eat it. I usually save just enough calories to have one small chocolate treat. But not every day. The nutrition tracker has been a big help. When you see just how many calories are in some foods, you may decide they just aren't worth it. Especially when foods like veggies and fruit will make you feel much better and have far less calories.

Absolutely. Pack pack pack. Fruits veggies are both good raw. Pria Bars are good snacks for inbetween cust. They are 110 cal and full of vitamins and minerals. Sandwich with low sodium meat is a great idea or even leftover grilled chicken or baked chicken. Or any meat for that matter as long as its lean cuts. Salads without the dressing is great because it will stay fresh all day long and doesnt require refrideration. I wish you luck! Have you checked out the nutrition articles on brown bag lunches? There's mroe good ideas there too.

Do you have a refrigerator available where you work? You could bring some cut veggies, such as carrot sticks, from home. Hummus is another good snack, you can use it on crackers or dip your raw veggies in it.

For lunches, you could bring sandwiches or salads made at home, or a frozen meal such as Lean Cuisine.
