I am more insane than previously thought

Friday, November 14, 2008

So despite every single comment in my previous post suggesting that it was a bad idea, I've signed up for the women's half marathon, which takes place on May 31/09 (a week after the Ottawa Marathon). Common fitness sense dictates that this is bad idea all around, but here are my reasons for signing up:

- I do not want to put off running a marathon for another year. Training will be much more difficult with a baby and my motivation to train is so high right now.

- I would hate myself forever for missing out on the inaugural race experience. Therefore skipping the half to focus on the marathon is not an attractive option either.

- I WILL be taking at least a year off from racing after both races...plenty of recovery time!

- Plenty of other people do crazier things when running (marathon every day, ultras, Goofy challenge) - this is pretty tame in comparison. I am NOT a person who backs away from a physical challenge and I am up for it!

You can do it... just pay extra attention to your body during your training and use the 2nd race more as a nice recovery run. I just ran an inaugural race here in Florida and it was fantastic.. definitely an experience you want to be part of!

:) Assuming you come out the other side fit/no injuries, I think it sounds really awesome!!! I wish you all the best! :D

I think it's awesome!! Yes it's ambitious but it sounds like you're giving yourself plenty of time to train and prepare your body for the stress it's going to go through between the 2 races. Then again I'm probably biased because that's totally something I would do (and I'd probably call myself insane too!). Good luck and enjoy your training!

Good luck with both races, you are so motivated! I'm sure you will know after the marathon whether you can combat the half, i look forward to following you through your training x
