Spring into Summer Reflections

Thursday, June 18, 2009

For this week's challenge of SIS, we are supposed to reflect on our progress. Here is what my reflection of this whole process was.

WEIGHT-LOSS: Did you meet a goal you set for yourself? If so, how did you do it? If not, what happened to keep you from your goal?

I honestly didn't have a goal weight in mind when I began this challenge. I just wanted to see some sort of loss before I had to try on my bridesmaid dress. Next weekend I go to try it on and I am actually looking forward to it. When I went to find a dress with the other bridesmaids back in November I ended up crying because I felt so left out - the store only carries a size 10 or smaller. Now I am going to walk in there with my head held high knowing that I have lost some weight and that the dress will not only fit me but might even be a little loose.
I met my goals by increasing my cardio workouts and adding strength training to my routine. I also began the C25K program. I think that by varying my workouts and making them fun it kept it interesting for me. The biggest problem I face is emotional eating and this has been a VERY emotional time in my life. Instead of reaching in for the ice cream (my go to happy place when stressed) I would journal, workout and if those failed i would go for a fruit that was sweet enough or have a small piece of frozen chocolate. I am doing well on my journey but I could not do it without the support of my family and Spark friends!

FITNESS: Did you meet any fitness milestones during the challenge? How did it make you feel? If not, what can you do differently going forward?

I am now able to run 2 miles straight. I still cannot make it a full 3 miles, I have to walk the first one - one and a half miles. One day I will be able to make it the full 3 miles. I am going to continue with the C25K program and build up to it. I can do 1 push-up (I know sad but I never could do one). I am now swimming 25 laps and love it.

SELF-THOUGHTS: How has your opinion of yourself changed throughout the course of this challenge? Are you happy with the changes?

I still have ups and downs about the way I look. But I FEEL so much better. I realize how bad my body feels when I miss a workout or if I eat the wrong foods. I am becoming more aware of what my body needs and how badly I have neglected it in the past. I still have to work through my bouts of depression but find that if I hit the gym it is decreased greatly. I am very happy with my results throughout this challenge. This challenge has made me aware of many things and has pushed me to better myself. It has been fun and I look forward to continuing on with the next challenge.

GOALS GOING FORWARD: Make some goals for yourself to work on after the challenge ends. How will you accomplish them?

I have signed up for our next challenge Swimming through Summer into Fall. My goals for this next phase of my journey is to:
1. I will exercise six days a week. Strength train 3-4 days
2. I will view myself in the mirror once a day and find something positive to say about myself
3. I will continue to work on healthy eating habits and continue to increase my intake of fruits and veggies
4. I will watch my negative self talk and inspire myself to try new things that make me proud to be me.

So to all my fellow Fireflies thank you for all of your support during this challenge! To all the Sparker's out there you are the greatest people! Good-bye Spring, Hello Summer, Soon to see the weight "Fall"in off! Here's to a new challenge.
