Well it's taken my three tries to find it again. I was last there about 20 years ago and I've tried to find it again, yesterday for the third time! Tucked away near Cougar Reservoir, there's room for a couple cars to park out of the way on the forest service road. It's a short 1/4 mile walk to the lake, but the terrain is tricky.
You can sort of see the lake from atop the berm before making your way to one of the trails.
In one direction, you trudge over and through marsh, after you make your way through thick brush.
From the other direction, you can avoid the marsh but the path is rough in spots. The path will take you to the makeshift 'dock' where there is a makeshift 'raft'.
The lake is spectacular and pristine. There was some smog, but still the view was beautiful.
When I say the raft is makeshift, it's no joke. But it's been there forever and over the years, visitors bring plywood and parts to update it and keep it somewhat usable. I think we may drag along a couple sheets of plywood for our next visit.
Being focused just on finding it again, we didn't think to wear swimsuits...duh! But not a soul for miles so Kristy swam in her birthday suit!
