My Lap Band Surgery 9/18

Wednesday, September 23, 2009

I wanted to write a blog about my lap band surgery. It has been something I waiting nearly 18 months to have. The agreement was that my husband would have it first and I’d follow his journey and see how it went. So far so good. Jason was banded on November 7, 2008 and has lost nearly 70 lbs. In my eyes for him it was a life changing experience. He became more “alive” and involved with our children. Our 4 year old son Sam keeps him quite busy playing outside and riding 4 wheelers.

OKAY now to MEMEMEMEME and my lap band experience. As I stated I waited nearly 18 months as patiently as I could. We had our health insurance through my husband’s employer and I was following the required elements to have lap band. The typical 7 month stint of supervised diet, etc. Then Jan ’09 Jason lost his job, and was reemployed with our State and got fabulous new insurance. How about it didn’t require the diet! I was THRILLED. So in July in less than 10 days I completed all that was required of me. I had originally anticipated having surgery on Friday, September 4th to have a long weekend before coming back to work. I had a “change of plans” when after I did my preops I was told I was pregnant. Sadly – this turned out to be a false positive and I rescheduled surgery for Friday, September 18th.

Fast forward to last Friday – 9/18
My sweet husband took me to the hospital where I had to be at 9 a.m. – surgery was slated for 11 a.m. – Well it didn’t happen until 12:30 p.m. – by 3:45 I was out the door and headed home. I hardly remember anything after waking up from having the swallow test or anything!

Saturday 9/19 Was not exactly a funfilled time. I have issues w/ meds and so they were making me SO sick and miserable. So I stopped taking them and switched over to Advil. Spent time outside walking around and getting rid of the remainder of the lovely GAS! I felt SO much better!

Sunday 9/20 Weighed in and by this time had lost a little over 10 lbs. ! – I did a few things around the house (LIGHT) and felt like a brand new person.

Monday & Tuesday I came to work and stayed until 12:30 – 1 p.m. each day and then went home to rest.

TODAY I am at work ALL day long and feeling great! My 6 incisions are healing nicely, and to date I have lost 14.4 lbs! I honestly thought there would be more pain, and for me there isn’t any. I am not taking anything for pain now. It’s GREAT!

There are so many things that I want to do: I want to run – have another child – and wear a sexy form fitting dress. The list is HUGE needless to say.

My cute hubby said just last night “Your love handles are smaller and I can tell you’re losing” LOL what a way to brighten my evening!

Saturday 9/19 my 4 year old son, Sam (who’s all over my SP) asked to see my surgery booboos. So I showed him and he gingerly touched my shoulder and kissed my cheek then said “Mommy, I am sorry you have these booboos but now you’re going to feel SO much better!” – I about cried.

I am looking forward to this journey of becoming an even healthier me!

IT’s interesting to see how people are already noticing a difference and commenting.

Thanks for letting me share! More to come!

I am so happy for you I know it is a hard decision to make I hope you have continued success. Are you able to eat a "regular" diet right now or are you on a liquid diet? Just curious if I weren't so afraid of complications and surgery in general I would be next in line LOL.
