My rekindled Spark

Friday, October 02, 2009

I'm so fortunate to have had the opportunity to attend the Spark convention. To meet SparkGuy and the staff and be in the presence of many others who love and appreciate this site as much as I do was so fabulous.

This was a girl's road trip with 3 members of our local Spark team. And I not only met two long time Spark friends, D710dance and Newbien, but made brand new ones. Just a wonderful weekend!

I was given the opportunity to be interviewed and tell my Spark story. Not only was I bawling after the first sentence, I'd just finished a two mile walk so water was pouring out of my eyes and every pore. As much as I'd like others my age, who may be feeling as hopeless as I did, to know that there is not only hope but victory is attainable, I hope that footage never sees the light of day.

But photos I saw of myself brought home to me the fact that I still have a ways to go and it is time to stop pussy footin' around. I've searched deep down and although I didn't find a runner in me anywhere, I think I can manage a walk/jog half marathon in a year. I hope I can train with others on my Detroit team because this is waaay out there for me, but I'll do it on my own if necessary. I think I'll keep this to myself where family and friends are concerned, I mean this is one of those things where all I need is one word of discouragement and I might cave.

Lynn, I wasn't at the convention but I saw your picture on another attendee's blog a few days ago. I thought you looked great. Take a bow for everything you have accomplished so far. All of us are a work in progress!

I agree, a half marathon walk is waay out there, but you can do it! I just posted a blog post about wanting to do a 5K walk, the Detroit Free Press has one in conjunction with it's annual marathon. I think though, that I would like to participate in other 5K's before I would think of walking in that one in Detroit.

I hope someday SP has a convention at Cobo Hall in Detroit. It would be so cool to go.

The convention was a much needed intermission for me! It was just what I needed to kick my butt in gear for the next half of my journey.

I'm definitely in for the walk/run of the half marathon! You will not do this alone, so you will not cave!!!

Lynn, I'm with you, the convention helped me so much, and I am in for the half marathon! Most likely walking unless the doctors allow me to run. Can't wait to spread this spark throughout Metro Detroit!

I'm so proud of you, our fantastic leader, you are the best!!!

You may be my hero! I'm with you! I, too, think that I can manage a walk/jog half marathon in a year. By this time next year, a half marathon will be under my belt. Mark this day on your calendar! I may not be the fastest but I'll give it my all! Thanks for the extra push and don't you cave! We can do this!

I bet you just had the time of your life.. I know I would have. What better way to regain your motivation then to spend time with all those people who are on the same mission.. the mission to good health!

Th marathon would be a great goal to work towards.. I am just so darned happy for you..
    Big hugs to you..
