My first Lap Band Adjustment

Wednesday, October 28, 2009

This coming Friday (Oct 30th) marks me being 6 weeks post-op out of lap band surgery. Today was a brand new experience with the first lap band "fill" aka adjustment. I was extremely inquisitive with the consult time w/ my Doctor who was very pleased with my progress (22 lbs GONE).

I have a large sized lap-band that holds 10 ccs. I was extremely anxious about the procedure of being adjusted. My husband who had lap-band last November prepared me and put me at ease.

So I got up on the table and laid down. The assistant placed the x-ray machine over my abdomen - while the nurse put the betadine on my port site. I felt a quick pinch more or less like a bee sting and the Doc added 2 ccs into my band. Once he did that I had to take a sip of barium (YUCK) and he made sure it was okay.

I go back in 6 weeks to see if I get another "adjustment" or remain at 2 ccs. As I left my Doctor grinned and said "You've officially been "turned" on" LOL what a way to exit out. LOL!

One adjustment down....LOTS more to go and tons of weight to come off!! emoticon

good for you! make sure you take it easy the next couple days with what you eat... cream soups are best! I will say wow regarding your office's procedure for a fill... mine doesn't do any of the x'ray, barium, etc. Our PA just feels around for the port, sticks in the needle and puts in a 1/2 cc at a time (typically)... then we have a sip of water to make sure that it isn't too tight and off we go. and my office considers a 10 cc band to be standard for women and 14 is large... guess that just goes to show the differences between offices!! :)

Now, that wasn't so bad was it. Just picture the new skinny you at the end of it all. Sort of like having braces, a bit of discomfort, but soon forgotten.
