In other news.. had a pretty good day today. It is COLD but sunny here in NYC so I didn't do much walking around. Went to the gym and did a 40 minute rebounding class and some of the dreaded "core" exercises. Also 10 minutes rowing and 10 minutes on elliptical. DB came with me today but worked on cardio machines rather than rebounding. He has said he will try the rebounding again with me next week... we shall see. I'll be heading back to Oregon next Friday so I have one week left with him. My mother plans to come and spend time with him after I leave so hopefully that will continue to keep him on track. In addition to his medical issues, I found out he is also battling drug and alcohol addiction. He knows that he HAS to kick those habits if he wants to regain his health and be the best he can be. He is now going to AA (today is Day 10) and he is surrounding himself with a wonderful support network. We have met some of the most fascinating people. One young man in particular comes from Nepal and he has such a peaceful aura around him. He has been clean and sober for 3 years now and will be a great influence to DB. We had him over for dinner yesterday after the AA meeting and I think he and DB will become very good friends. I have never been to an AA meeting in my life before this trip and some of the stories I have heard are just heart wrenching. The strength, "can-do" attitude and commitment of the members to stay clean and sober while fighting addictions are just amazing to see in action. My weight issue is really so insignificant in comparison.

I'm pretty excited for tomorrow night... we are going to see "Dream Girls" live at the Apollo Theatre (in Harlem). It is getting phenom reviews and the production will be going on tour next year. I loved the movie and have never been to the Apollo so that will be a new experience. DB is going to get me all "wigged up" so I'll have him take a photo. I don't have any sparkly clothes with me... only jeans, exercise clothes and a few sweaters so won't have much glitz on.... but I'll give it my best effort with what I have. He also told me not to wear jewelry in that area of town so I'm going to follow that advice.... don't want any harrowing stories to report!

That's all the news that is newsworthy for today. Take care my Spark Friends and have a great week-end.

That sounds like fun! My sister loves the Apollo Theater. She used to volunteer there a lot although I don't know if she does anymore. She says the people there are awesome. Actually, in general the people in NYC are so interesting. It is like a giant entertainment center (and you don't have to pay... just look around you, and you'll be entertained.) Have fun!

What a great sister you are - my best to your DB on his recovery, and to you on your continued healthy lifestyle! Thanks for the link, and keep up the good work. I hope you get a chance to see Rockafellar Plaza before you are back to the West Coast again.
