The "Lump" is indeed cancer

Thursday, January 07, 2010

Well, my doctor just called with the results from the biopsy.

Cancer.

I'm really not surprised given that my mom and her mom both fought breast cancer. They were quite a bit older when they were diagnosed, however, my grandmother in her mid-70s and my mom in her mid-60s. Now me in my mid-50s. I guess my daughter should be eyeing her mid-40s with flags up.

I don't know what happens now. My doctor made an appointment with a surgeon for next Tuesday, so I suppose we'll go over all the options and what I'm looking at in terms of treatment, etc., at that time.

In the meantime, I want all my friends to know that I appreciate all well wishes and messages of good will and concern.

I may not know exactly what I'll be facing in the next few months, so all moral support is welcome!

Well, CHIT! Can we get a round of extreme cursing going? Seems like it's warranted.

I am new to this group but not to the challenge this diagnosis presents. My mother is an 8 year survivor of breast cancer and I am praying for a full and complete recovery for you.

    Michele,

You remain in my prayers. Words fail me, and yet, please know that i care about you, and am here for you no matter what. Feel free to scream, cry, and just put your head on my shoulder whenever you need someone. I know that we have never met, and you still are important to me. I will send you my personal info in a separate e-mail. In the meantime, please call on friends and family for support if you think their help will be good for you. Hugs, Janet (JANEXA)

May your medical staff and all your family, you and yours, be gifted with strength, faith, and optimism through this journey.. As others have said, each individual is different, that is why the docs meet with you and offer you options, no cookie-cutter solutions,,
my thoughts and prayers are with you all now.. Linda

Michele, just one step at a time. Stay strong, and as you pass successfully through each phase, you'll be that much closer to this being a memory. Take good care of you. emoticon

Michele, one day, one hour, one minute, one moment. Each cancer survivor is totally different from the next. Keeping a positive outlook is a tremendous help in getting you through this. When you're ready...

I'm sorry to hear about this. My mother had breast cancer too, so I am very watchful. She opted for a partial mastectomy right off the bat as she'd seen friends go through all the "smaller" surgeries and treatments and didn't want to chance them not getting it all.

I hope you're able to get all the information you need to make the best possible decision for your health.
