Yellowstone in May

Friday, May 07, 2010

I think I will begin a blog with details from my upcoming trip to Yellowstone.

I will make it a photo journal of our trip. We are very much looking forward to it and hope you will enjoy it, too. With the very unpredictable weather this spring it could prove to be quite the adventure.

We are taking our travel trailer (which we brought so we could take the dogs with us on our trips). We have made reservations at the Fishing Bridge Campground which is on Lake Yellowstone. From there we are planning day trips to the Lamar Valley which is where most of the bison live. It is calving season for them and I hope to see lots of little red babies playing in the valley. I heard the wolves are really hovering over them too for a little veal.

For those of you who have never been to Yellowstone and are nature lovers, it is a place you could absolutely lose yourself in. My first trip there was on our honeymoon in 2002. We travelled through Jackson Hole, Wyoming, past the Tetons and up through Yellowstone in a little Miata convertible. It was an absolutely wonderful trip!

Yes, on our honeymoon trip in the convertible on August 7th the sky got dark and it started to snow. Before it started my husband wanted to put the top up but I wouldn't let him. He still gives me a bad time about that. Luckily we did have coats, long pants and shoes to change into.

I watched the Ken Burns series as well. They were great! I learned so much about the places I love.

How exciting to go to Yellowstone! I watched the wonderful Ken Burn's PBS series on the Natl Parks, love that the wolves are back after being killed off years ago. Predators are natural, humans killing for sport is not. So lucky that these beautiful natural areas have been preserved for all of us to enjoy. Visited Yellowstone, Glacier Natl Parks when my mother lived in Colorado. You may run into snow this time of year! Have a wonderful time and I am looking forward to your photos!!
