Today was a beautiful day here in the midwest. The fellow who is 'weatherizing' my deck was supposed to show up at 8 a.m., I haven't seen him yet.
Of course, I got up early to argue with my hair and find something scintillating to wear.
I needed to check on my daughter Audrie's house which is on the other side of town. It's a pleasant drive . She and her family are vacationing. While they are gone, some remodeling is going on in their home. Oh my heavens ! Her beautiful garden is full of sawhorses, tools and lumber. Squashed squash, torpedo(ed ) tomatoes, croaked cucumbers, broken basil, deflowered flowers AND the water turned off. I said a little prayer for the workmen and continued on my way around Lake Springfield.
I have lived here for 6 years, I've been out there hundreds of times. I missed my turn. I had been mightily distracted. As can be expected, I had no idea how to get to where I'd intended to be. As I said, it's a pleasant drive. I found myself in cornfields, really lovely cornfields. Tall stalks going in rows forever. Beautiful farm houses set back from the roads. I meandered further and noticed I was near the University of Illinois. I cut through the campus and remembered lovely evenings at the symphony, a reading on sustainable living at Brookens Library and terrific 'open studio' paint outs. Rather sadly, I knew where I was.
It had been such a nice adventure, I decided to walk the dogs when I got home. I leashed up my little terrier and Audrie's chocolate lab. We wandered up my street for a mile, sniffing every leaf that had fallen , we rested in the park ( attempting to sniff every one who passed ) and meandered home. Peaceful, lovely and healthy to boot !
Did I lose a day ? NO... Waste a day ? NO... Did I get much done ( laundry, bill paying, dusting )? NO.... The dogs are happy and so am ..... YES! Life is good !
