So, I'm not really a runner. And I'm not in awesome aerobic shape. But, today I ran/walked in my first 5K, and it was a lot of fun!
I went to Binghamton to meet my sparkfriend KOBEBROWN (Tammie). The family and I drove up on Saturday afternoon. We got there around 6, and around 6:30 there was a launch of the balloons as part of the festival with which the 5K is associated.
They were so beautiful. We had dinner after watching the balloons and then went back to the hotel, watched a little TV, and went to bed. I didn't really sleep very well. And when I did, I had kind of stressful dreams! Oh well, I guess I was a little anxious and excited.
I was up at 6:30 and out of the hotel and over to the festival at about 8:30. Tammie and I met up, we hung out with my hubby and daughter and took a few pictures......
Then, it was time to start.......we decided to run 4 minutes, then walk 1. This worked fine for about two rotations, then I needed to walk two! Slowly I came up against my aerobic threshhold. It wasn't quite as high as I had hoped. But, we walked as I needed to, and I figure I probably ended up running a little less than half of the race.
After crossing the finish line, which I don't have a picture of, we walked around the festival, had a little food (the festival is named the Spiedie Fest, and spiedie is a kind of roasted meat, and the served it on a nice roll, and it was really tasty!). We had to get going around 11:30, so we said goodbye to Tammie and made our way back to the hotel and then back home.
I feel pretty good. Did I want to be able to just easily run the whole thing? Of course I did. Did I prepare well enough? No. But, I had a GREAT time and I have a goal to do another 5K in September. I will be a bit better prepared and by next year, look out!! KOBEBROWN will be able to run the whole thing with me!! No walking needed for me!
Thanks for a great time, Tammie. Thanks to my hubby and daughter for their support. And thanks also to the awesome members of Swimming for Cardio and my friend Pattie who have been so supportive!!!
