Faith is 3 today !

Saturday, August 14, 2010

Today is Faith's 3rd birthday. She called me this morning to tell me ! She said she wants lots of presents, and her party will be at the waterpark !!! Yesterday she started preschool. Her mama let her dress herself because she is such a big girl now. She chose a black t-shirt that says, " I'm a little spoiled" and has a crown on it. She decided it was perfect with her red and pink tutu and pink cowboy boots. Does it get any better ?

Today I put up 9 quarts of tomatoes. My friend Francine and her husband grow more than they can eat. I can hers with mine and we share the lot. It makes a wonderful day for me. I easily slip back to the times I really needed to can foods for the savings. My children still love the peaches, beef jerky and granola I make. The boys (3), the sons-in-law (3) and now grandsons (9) all anticipate beef jerky on their birthdays.

We had some deep sadness this week too. An friend of mine, a fellow potter, passed away on Tuesday. Also, a young woman my son dated about 8 years ago, decided to take her own life. My meditation today included their journey.

Just as I was about to end this blog, my 7 year old grandson, Zachary, called. He was delighted to inform me that he is stuck in Boston. My daughter, her hubby, Zachary and 4 year old twins are indeed grounded in Boston on their way home from vacation. Zach was thrilled to report that he gets to eat lobster tonight! Mason got stung by a bee on his ear and Mackenzie has 3 pieces of candy in her mouth at one time ! He went snorkeling with his dad and saw coral and sea anemone! He went golfing for the first time with his dad and he got to drive the golf cart. ! He climbed apple trees and went down a super slide ! He's bringing home some new books and and and........ life goes on,

Thanks for sharing the beautiful details of your very full -- and wonderful-sounding -- life.

I've been vegetable gardening for a few years now but haven't canned, just done some freezing. I was hoping to get alot of tomatoes this year and to try canning, but it looks like the blight (or something!) got them. Another year....

That's cute about your grandkids :) Glad they're having a great time this summer!

Ooooh!!! Your creativity amazes me, and look where it extends! Nine quarts of tomatoes, and you can peaches, too? We used to have two peach trees in our back yard, and they were so heavy with fruit every summer that Mom and Dad had to prop them up with ladders :) She'd feed the neighborhood with peaches and peach cobbler all summer. I can still see - and smell! - that bubbling cobbler on her stovetop... Too, she made peach preserves to last throughout the winter. Sooo good on toast in the morning!

Plus, you make beef jerky and granola! That's absolutely fantastic :) It must be time-consuming, but I'll bet people line up at your doorway with their hands out!

I love summer's bounty. Thanks for sharing yours with us! - Sandi emoticon
