Wow, end of August..08/30/10

This month sure did fly by... of course, I say that nearly every month. I'm still stuck at my plateau weight, but I will prevail !

Last week I enjoyed the company of my niece, Noelle. She was visiting from Los Angeles and had no idea of how peaceful and slower paced other parts of the country can be. We toured the local galleries and museum at our leisure, ate corn and good midwest beef !

On Friday we traveled with another friend of mine to Indianapolis to attend the 'Fringe Fest". My friend Francine and I, in our mid 60's, were thrown into the nightlife of the (much) young(er). It started with a wonderful vegetarian barbque. We had kebobs of vegetables, tomatoes kebobs, eggplant kebobs and more kebobs. We enjoyed a brown rice and barley pilaf, spaghetti squash with vinegar, and watermelon sprinkled with cayenne pepper and crushed mint leaves . There were trays of cheeses and apples, platters of fruit and jugs of water with lime, lemon and plums. I was in food heaven, so many interesting items that I tasted without guilt, prepared in healthy ways ! (as an aside, I must say the guests were, to a person, thin and happy). I did not see a speck of sugar. Many of the guests were performers and had shows to put on.

The next morning we did as much of a walking tour of Indianapolis as our bodies would allow. Francine and I both ( once again) promised to get more exercise, eat ONLY healthy foods and take better care of our ageing bodies. We can both walk, breathe and enjoy. We need to get out there and DO it. We are planning to attend as many outdoor events as possible in the future. They get you up and out of your routine.

I've noticed that even with the walking of my dog, I take the tried and true, this is the way we go, route. Rarely do I add extra time or distance to our daily exercise.... NOT. Chu li and I will go wider and farther. We will explore and rest on the trail if we must.

My little adventure really jogged my waning effort at keeping life interesting. There is so much out there to take advantage of. It isn't in my living room, it's out THERE.

P.S. We, (Francine and I) enjoyed a particularly good yoga class this morning !

What a rich ending to this summer, Annette! I predict September will shift you from your plateau, too. And, I love your plan to keep life interesting - that barbecue you and Francine attended sounded deeeelicious! Glad Noelle enjoyed herself at that slower, more savoring pace, too :) - Sandi emoticon

lucky you.. sounds like a great time.. we use to go to all the outdoor free concerts around and some of the plays put on by smaller theatres that only cost 5 to $7 to get into..really enjoyed that, but health has deterorated until that is no longer possible. enjoy it while you can do it.. I miss it terribly.. we also use to take long walks after supper.. really miss that... emoticon
