I like to think of today as " Patriots Day"... On this day 9 years ago, Americans stood up and shouted 'We Are One Nation "... It is sad to think of what it cost us in pain and suffering, but we remembered who we are. Do you recall the generosity of your neighbors, the firemen on street corners holding their boots for donations ? I worked for the police department at that time. I saw first hand how a city goes on defense. The critical planning and first defender training put to use......

Today also happens to be my birthday. For many years I have used this day to review the year, recheck my goals, mediate and ponder... both the year past and the year to come. Since I journal it is particularly insightful.

One of my daughters introduced me to Spark last May. I've remained healthy all summer. Something of a blockbuster for me, and one I contribute in part to my healthy eating and exercise plans. I'd hoped ! wished ! expected ? the weight to just fall off. On any other 'diet' I would have given up by now.

It is you, the Spark community that keeps me going. I love reading the blogs, the comments, and the ups and downs that we all seem to go though. Just when I think I'll give up, someone posts something so poignant and meaningful, so full of love and promise, that I come to my senses.

When I feel old, I read about a fitness trainer who is near 80. When I am overwhelmed by the amount of weight I have to lose, I read about someone who has lost 110 pounds or more. When I feel sick, there are folks a lot worse off than I am and they are all SPARKING. How can I resist ? Thank you my friends.

Today I will (continue) to sit in my pajamas and relax until it's time to get ready for... my grandkids ! After cake ( yes a small slice), the twins, 4 year old Mason and Mackenzie will spend the night for the first time. I may be making a midnight run to take them home, but it will be the culmination of a wonderful day. Oh, and by the way, after a very long 5 weeks the scale finally moved. Hooray ! I'm down 1.5 lbs. at last.....
