Half-marathon training

Sunday, September 12, 2010

So, I am satisfied with my break from p90x. Training for my first half is taking a lot of my time, in addition to school. I will run my half-marathon on Nov 21st in Clevelend. Then the weather will be crappy for running, so I plan to pick up p90x again over the winter!

The training program that I am doing is great. It has shorter runs during the week and then a longer run on the weeeknd, with the longer runs growing by about a mile each week.

I have group of friends that I am training with and it makes it survivable. I love running with the girls and gabbing the whole time. It's a great distraction.

Friday we ran our first 7 miles. Afterward, my knees and hips hurt, but I felt better by the next day, thanks to some crazy stretching. I'm also learning a lot about my body and how it performs. I have a very high metabolism, so I burn through my glycogen stores fast. I need to eat (a lot) before my long runs, or I burn out too fast. It's interesting, cause some people can't eat before they run.

We ran our first race last weekend. It was sooo much fun. It was a 4 mile trail race. (the first two miles were uphill, yuck). But we did it and had a great weekend camping in addition.

Next week is a 5K! My son is running that one with me! Can't wait:)
