North Carolina Trip

Summer sure has come to an abrupt end ! It seems as soon as the calendar changed, so did the weather. Last week I went on a Senior Bus Trip from here in lovely Springfield, IL to Asheville NC. Think about it, 130 'geezers' like me in 3 buses. We had a wonderful time. The weather was perfect ! I was amazed at how organized the trip was. Our luggage was loaded and unloaded for us, taken directly to our hotel rooms. Snacks of p-nut butter on crackers and trail mix were handed out and we were encouraged to drink, drink, drink water. Nicely timed stops for 'necessity breaks'.
It was tricky eating, though. Simply not enough fresh fruit and veggies to suit me. I made the best choices I could and counted on all the walking to balance things out. We visited the Biltmore Estate, 3 craft centers and attended a 'hoedown' complete wish blue grass band and wonderful barbecue. Our schedule was 6:30 breakfast and 7 p.m. return, amazingly I was able to do it all ! I really credit Spark for my new found ability. The regular exercise, walking and better eating are really paying off.
This morning I cleaned out the garage ( much overdue ) and then went down to my basement 'studio' and threw 3 nice large bowls. I'm particularly pleased with this effort. For the past couple of years I have only thrown small pieces. It takes muscles and exertion to wrestle the clay on a wheel. It all seems easier again. I haven't changed anything else in my life so it's got to be lifestyle. Stay with it. Be patient with yourself. Small steps count......
