I'm inspired...

and motivated to really make this year a year of accomplishment and self improvement. This morning I read a blog by my friend, CYNTHIA47, and saw just what could be done in a year if you set your mind to it and 'grow' the process.

Cynthia walked in her house, then her driveway, then to her neighbor's, and then up and down hilly terrain close to home. This from someone who couldn't walk across a room without having to sit down. Now walking is a challenge for me, but there's no reason I can't use my walker and strive for increased distance and intensity. If Cynthia could do it, why should I accept anything less from myself? Cynthia's story goes on, but the real thing is hers is a measurable success story. She belongs in the Spark People archive of Success Stories!

Yesterday I calculated my BMI and found I was in the 'obese' range. Surprised? Of course not! But this is a measurable element of fitness. My goals for 2011 have now been expanded to include taking my BMI down to the 'overweight' category. Its doable and each point down on the chart will take me closer to my ultimate goal of 'normal'.

I will periodically be blogging about my efforts so you can celebrate my success with me, and encourage me when I'm faltering. Thanks for being here for me. You Spark Friends make me enthusiastic and committed.

And thanks Cynthia for the wake-up call to join you where health and ability are improved and measurable.

    Vicki i think you are already wonderful. I remember you drove all by yourself over 100 miles just to come and see me. now if that is fabulous I don't know what is. Take care and don't push it too far, to quickly as you don't want to make it worse. Just small steps and appreciate that.

    Vicki, you have set yourself up for your goals this year and have taken time out to evaluate where you are. However, right now you need to just concentrate on getting better. I was horrified when i saw that you had a heart attack and, I have to admit, i did fear the worst. However, I am so pleased that you are ok, although I suggest you need to take things al ot easier when yu get home. I owuld appreciate an email from oyu when you do return and i can then give you a call and we can have a chat. Take really good care of yourself and my prayers go with you.

You can do this........ we all have some sort of success story...... and you've been an inspiration to me and others already........ whether we lose or not....... trying to live a healthier life style is our first step...... you have taken that step already....... when I started with Sparks.....     Vicki...the best to you on your journey here...it sounds like you've got the right attitude and motivation. I too "joke" about the only walking/running I did was to the refrigerator. True but not so funny. I'm just starting also. 6 days in and I feel stronger already. Tomorrow's my first weigh-in, and I know I've lost (my scale is at my buddy's house, we will weigh in together)...the loss I can attribute to the many motivational stories here! Good for you!

    I know you can do it and in all 3 phases of the weight loss plan .

    You already had the positive attitude down pat!

    Now you are blogging to help keep yourself (and the blog is for you remember that ..However I think you will motivate others because your such a great gal)

    I would set small goals of small exercises.
    For example I have 3 different sizes of small rubber coated dumbells 10 pound set and a 25 solo and a 40 pound solo. I use the little ones for side bends and sqauts etc and then a couple times a week i use the bigger ones to help strengthen a little. You of course could do the same by using 5 pound dumbells and 10 and 15 for example. I do 2 of my 6 regular little exercises sitting and they do not do that much for me physically but Mentally I feel better because i did something and that pushes me sometimes over the little ledge from feeling OK to feeling GREAT !
