Hello my friends, I need your help on this one. I like the Spark Challange Teams because they are specific, focused and have a beginning and end. These teams keep me engaged becasue they are not ongoing.

So, I thought that I would create my own challenge for the summer. And this is where you come in. Each week I was thinking I would create a new goal around fitness and nutrition. For fitness, I may try a new spark workout, and for nutrition I would pick one area to focus on except I don't know where to start. I like to workout in the morning but am not sure if I should eat breakfast first or half of my breakfast and eat after the workout, etc. As far as fitness goes I have been consistent lately but I wimp out on strength. I do strength training (the light version) three times a week but I need a lot of work if I want my arms to resemble Nancyanne's(Hi Nancy).

What do you guys think? Any suggestions? I want to start on Monday. Not to worry, I'm not letting my diet and fitness go to .... while I figure this out.

My 3 cents, muscle, muscle, muscle is everything. With it you lose fat and still can eat a lot. I like that. So, everything I do is centered around preserving muscle. So, eating in the morning....protein w some good carbs before working out is important. Just wait 30 minutes ...eat something light and then again after the workout, if you think that works better for you.

Your body will process the workout and food the same regardless of when the workout happens, but eating first helps fuel you so your burned calories are not coming from muscle tissue.

If you are happy with your weight/fat percentage, then you should lift weights and hard...warrior like. It will change your body and no bulking will ever happen.
YES, You get definition, but won't look butchy.

It raises your metabolism and keeps you burning calories all day. You can eat more.

So, my challenge to you is to start a serious weight lifting routine with heavier weights each week...or an extra rep here and there (that gets you stronger too)

Maybe try a home program like ChaLean Extreme by Beachbody or P90x and see what you think.

In terms of when to eat breakfast I can tell you the jury is still out, lol. Some people swear by working out with nothing in their stomach and other people will tell that that is pure foolishness. My suggestion would be to do whatever feels best for you...if you feel that you need to eat to get a great workout in then definitely do that.

In terms of the nutrition, one thing I did a few summers ago as a personal challenge was to try 2-3 new fruits/veggies each week. I discovered a lot of new foods some of which I still eat now.

For fitness, I would go with Shawneda, the SP workouts are a great place to start.

    Good luck!!

Interesting Idea. Hope you get it worked out. I have not started a good retuin yet as I am new to SP, but I like what I see and the way it motivates people like you. Keep up the good work.

I do most of my strength at the office .. so when I go to the bathroom I do one set of wall pushup, one set of calf raises .. for me it would be nice if it is something I do while I am at work .. I can't do a video, and my time at home is limited. I use my waterbottle, when it is full as my weigh for my arms! I would love to see more arms, upperbody stuff that is possible to do in breaks at the office!

    Thanks thinking of us -

Sounds great! I agree with Shawneda. On my BL challenge team she uses the spark exercise and they are tough. Plus she has us doing 4 sets of each exercise. emoticon

I like the focusing on one one goal. It promotes success

In regards to your work out and eating. How long and how intense is your workout. You could do yogurt or a banana before or split your breakfast depending on what it is

Sounds good. I like the challenges, go for it. I would use the Spark generated ones at first because all of the organization has already been done.

When the next BLC round starts you should consider joining. The next round will start some time in September. It's 12 weeks long. Have you heard of it? If you haven't let me know and I'll share some details. It's really helped me keep on task and motivated.

I think creating a team with specific weekly focuses (foci? lol) could be a great thing! Work it to your advantage and make it what you need!
