What I've Learned from Kung Fu Panda

Thursday, July 07, 2011

Last night hubby and I took the kids to see Kung Fu Panda 2 at a cinema cafe. It's a second-run theater with tables and you can order pizza and sandwiches. It's not the greatest pizza but of course I had to have my popcorn, as some of you may know, popcorn (the machine-popped kind) is my absolute favorite. It's absolutely unhealthy, but one thing I will never give up!
The movie was pretty good- really funny parts. It had a great message though, too: don't worry about what was in your past, where you came from or who you used to be, just live for NOW and be the person you want to be NOW.
I have to focus on what I can do now. I've spent way too much time thinking about what I want for my future. I've spent way too much time wallowing in regret over what I've done in the past. I can't really DO anything about either right now. All I can do is make choices NOW and do what I can NOW.
Two weeks ago my sister and her family went to visit his family in his hometown. My sister told my brother-in-law that he should try to get in touch with his best friend from childhood, as he hadn't seen him for a long time. He was like, "no, I'll get a hold of him sometime, but not now."
His friend died yesterday. People just need to quit dying! But, since they don't, we need to do what we can NOW. You never know when your last chance will be.
I think of this song when I think of those I love and how I need to show them how much they mean to me while I still can:

- While it's still called today, won't somebody make it right? Til the day slips into
night, and the moments waste away. While it's still called today, we gotta say the words, that are longing to be heard, cuz tomorrow may be too late. Go on and say what you need to say- while it's still called today. -Steven Curtis Chapman

I mentioned that I had confessed to my friend next door, and made it right between us. I was questioning if I should have done that, because I really hurt her. I don't regret talking it out now. I know it was the right thing to do, and we are better friends now because of it.
I challenge all who read this: do what you can now, while you are still able to, and while it's still called today. Tomorrow may be too late.

I love the message...I plan on living now.

Also, I can't stop thinking about the last blog you wrote about your neighbor so it is funny you mentioned it again in this blog. I will try and continue to try not to judge my neighbors. Your blog was a message for all of us. Two great blogs. I believe in little whispers that God is telling me. Those blogs were my whispers. emoticon

Great job focusing on getting everything in perspective.
