Well, Monday is the big day. I am joining many who wear dentures and I am very nervous about the whole thing. I hate anything that feels weird in my mouth and I gag. Any helpful hints would be appreciated. Still on the bike, 35 minutes five days a week.

Due to a health issue when I was a teenager my upper teeth were removed when I was only 23. I have worn an upper denture for over 41 years! If you have a good dentist, the pain of the extractions should pass fairly quickly. I am able to eat anything I want and have never had ill fitting dentures or dentures that caused pain once I adjusted to having them in my mouth. Last summer I replaced my denture for the fourth time so they have each lasted about 10 years. I hope your experience is also good.

Since I was so young, the first glance at my toothless self in the mirror was shocking and I simply have not looked in the mirror without them in place since then. I have even slept with them in my mouth for 41 years although the dentists always tell me not to. It has not caused me any problems and I think it may have even kept them fitting well. My husband never saw me without my teeth in place until after we had been married over 30 years and I had to have surgery. I gave him the container and told him to put them in my mouth the instant I came to. Poor man, he would love me with or without teeth but he knows how important it was to me.

I do think that getting the denture at such an early age did affect my self-image and maybe my weight also. Don't let it get to you!! It is just another step toward being healthy!!

I'm glad we're friends; sorry I've been so lax. I just now read your blog.
Merry Christmas to you and your family! emoticon

I'm worried about the same thing. My big date is coming up in November. I'll be getting a full upper denture. You must let me know how it went for you.

No need to be nervous. Took me only 2 days to get use to mine. I had to leave mine in 24 hours before I could take them out. Don't worry you will be fine emoticon

Write your questions down - I know if I don't I forget half of them or get side tracked. Just think you will have the beautiful white pearlies! Am sure you will be fine.

The doctor's office should explain all that you need to know .... go in with a bunch of questions if you have any doubts .... don't worry, they will be just fine ... Roc
