A mid-week vacation day is even more fun!

Wednesday, November 09, 2011

My son's high school starts their year a week earlier than most. This gives the kids a week off in November.

It gives the kids a chance to de-stress, and the school said that the drop out and suspension rate has dropped by over 35%!

Works for me - and the kids are quite enjoying it.

So I took today off to spend with him. At 14 - I try to take advantage of this as much as possible because, as long as I don't, say, hug him in public, he still likes to spend time with me....sometimes (as long as there are no malls involved, for instance).

After spending two hours this morning fixing the internet and his new playstation system, so he could play his new game (he just started a paper route so is flush with cash for such things), we headed off to the awesome bowling and games centre close to our house. This is a great place - clean, bright, and lots of fun things to do. We had a great game of bowling (ahem, yes, after starting out with 5 frames of gutter balls, I pulled through with two strikes and three spares), and then had a fun time in the arcade.

It's been an awesome day so far. And I definitely see some relaxing in my future this afternoon!

I love Wednesdays off!

Good for you!! And good for your son!!!

Kids sometimes don't act like they want to be seen with their parent, but they do know when they are loved. So....hug him when his friends aren't there. Tell him you love him. Encourage him. Protect him. And enjoy every minute that you can with him as he grows. That's exactly what mid week vacations are for...reminding ourselves what is really important in life.

You may have started the day "in the gutter", but certainly were a big hit by the end of the day. Congratulations!!

Hope you have a wonderful rest of the week.

    Best wishes always......Bill

What a fantastic way to spend your day! My son is in that stage of life as well. I take advantage of every opportunity I get to spend quality play time with him. The housework will always be there, but one of these days, he will be too off to college. I want him to remember all the fun we had together so he will come home more often as an adult! Got to pave that road now. emoticon
