Discipline starting with a blog

Saturday, July 28, 2012

I have been so impressed with some of my spark friends who blog regularly. I do a reasonably good job at posting to teams but somehow avoid blogs. After reading Sprinklechez's blog, I promised I would start writing! I reviewed my spark goals this evening, some I set when I first joined this site years ago. One of the goals was regular journaling, I have not made progress with that goal so I am now challenging myself to "just do it"

I have been bad about not taking pictures or measurements of my post-surgical journey but I have experienced a fun phenomena. Clothes that were somewhat tight the last time I tried them on are getting to fit or actually are big. Dressing is getting to be too much of an adventure since I end up trying on several things. I am going to try to empty my closet and get everything tried on and sorted this week, I have been "lucky" to have a too small wardrobe so I haven' t had to shop much. I am beginning to see new clothes being needed on the not too distant future and I am excited by that prospect.

I have not had many problems eating anything I've tried. This week I was at a small quilting re treat with a few quilting friends and one of them made spaghetti for dinner, I had a very small amount of it (I mostly ate protein that I brought in since I know my new way of eating has to be protein first and I make it a practice to not have white starch). I was pleased to see that I could eat pasta. Before my surgery, my damaged stomach really could not handle it. I am being careful to make the best choices I can. I am avoiding all sugar as I don't want to experience dumping and I would just as soon assume I will dump and not be tempted by sugar if I should find out it doesn't bother me. I am portioning out my food at home before I eat and doing the same when we go out. I generally cut up my food before I eat and practice chewing well.

Today I experienced cravings for more food. I did add extra lettuce to my dinner. (Eating lettuce makes me happy because it is another food that I enjoy that I could not eat before surgery). After my 1/2 hour of post-meal no liquids I managed to calm down the munchies by having a couple of sugar free Popsicles and filling up my pouch with sugar-free crystal light. I hope by writing this out I will remember that I don't have to eat in response to cravings.
