Update on the old knee surgery and a Merry Christmas to all.

Thursday, December 20, 2012

Hey everyone I know you have not been seeing me around my favorite place in the whole world sparkpeople but most of you know I had knee surgery on 12/4. But even I did not know what all was done until I saw my Dr on 12/17.

Apparently my knee was so much worse than expected due to the fact that I have needed this surgery for 2 1/2 yrs while Workers Comp sat and denied it forever. So the Dr cut off all the dead cartilage and he said it was almost all gone under my knee cap and then he took an instrument(called an aul I think) like an ice pick and made 10 holes in under the knee cap to stimulate new growth and he said to my knee it was like having a BLUNT FORCE TRAUMA INJURY and I could be in this pain for 5 wks or longer but NO and he meant NO weight bearing on the knee.............sigh

So now you understand why I am not on here. I sit a lot with my leg propped up or I have to lay in bed with it up with ice or heat and of course I am back on some of the pain medications (but had him put me on the lowest does there was) but there are times when MAN OH MAN does the old knee hurt.

So know I will return when I am in a better frame of mind and I can sit for a longer period of time.

Thanks to all of you for your cards, goodies, well wishes and to all of you Merry Christmas and a blessed and happy new year.

Love your Nimster...............

I'm so glad you finally got the surgery you needed! Sorry I haven't been there for you much lately. However, I know about how surgeries can be unexpectedly complicated and the pain afterwards. When I had my tendon replacement surgery the doctor said I had no tendon left... at all. She was amazed that I had been walking like that for 8 months.

I spent the first 8 weeks on my back with leg elevated for the most part or the leg extended in a wheelchair. Like you no weight on that leg at all to help with the healing. Wishing you a speedy and full recovery.

that is the kind of knee surgeries I had on both knees...bone has to grow to porous my feet for 8 sure to bend and straighten out that leg as much as possible or you will have worse problems..I would get Sonny to help me in the tub and would do them there..or if you have membership at gym they have spa's or hot tubs and great place to bend and straighten...You are in my prayers. Call me if you need to talk. emoticon

Hang in there Nims - I had the exact same surgery on my ankle a few years back. Micro-fracture is what my ortho guy called it. And he said it was super important to keep the weight off because that tender new scar tissue that becomes the new cartlidge can shear off so easily until it toughens up. But, a few years later and my ankle is great - not perfect, but great nonetheless.

So, listen to the doc - WAIT until he says you can put weight on it!

Nimsy, while I'm sorry to hear you're in pain, I know it will do you so much good in the long run. You will feel so much better when that knee heals, and you're able to live without pain (or at least not as much as before) again. Sending you many get well wishes!

So many times, peeps (me too) think we know better than the doc, are better healed than we seem, etc....NOT the case. . .follow orders, young lady!!

Keep OFF that knee. . .and, Merry Christmas to you 8-))

Oh Nims! I'm so sorry to read that you got messed about by Workers' Comp to exacerbate your condition so much! (But what else is new? Those people ... well, don't get me started!) Please do what your doc tells you -- we all chomp at the bit and think we are different and get back in harness sooner than dictated. NOT TRUE! and you will only make it worse by trying to do so!

I know it's boring! Can I send you any books to read, or crossword books, or jigsaw puzzles to help you while away the hours?
