1st annual New Years Midnight Magic 5K

Friday, January 04, 2013

The Midnight Magic 5K was the way that I decided to ring in the new year. I am not about partying anyway. My whole goal in life is to better myself in many different ways.

My daughters were all out of town at their dad's house, so I decided to to the 5K all by myself. I did not know a soul when I got there either. It is a little awkward when there isn't the comfort of knowing somebody, but I got through it.

We all rang in the New Year with noise makers at Midnight and the 5K started at 12:13 (for 2013). It was only about 12 degrees, so I was bundled up with my long undies, a tshirt and sweats. Gloves and wools socks were a must, for sure. The first mile was cold, but by the start of the second I was warmed up. I walked most of the 5K, but now and again I would find the endurance to jog some of it. I finished it in 47 minutes. Not bad for me :)

I think part of the reason I wanted to do it, is because it was so cold and late, that I knew that in a way it is kind of silly to do it. It is something that most people would not want to do. The next local 5K is in Feb. I have done a couple of these races with my kids and they love being a part of them too. I plan on making every race that we possibly can.

It may be silly to do these races, but they are a great way to give yourself goals!

I ran a First Night 5K (New Year's Eve) @ ~30 degs and then the Sweetheart 5K (16 Feb) @ 19 degs. It was so worth running both of them! My next one is 13 April!

    Keep on running!
