Ditching the all-or-nothing

Well, today was one of those incredibly stressful days with a sick kiddo and craziness at work. I had packed healthy food to eat during the day. I've been much better about consistently eating breakfast at home before I leave in the morning, but didn't today and then the minute I got to work there was no time. But, now that I think about it, I did "have time" to eat the cookies given to me as a gift. (As I was typing that, I have to kind of laugh because my healthy stuff was right there!). Anyway, the morning was very busy and stressful, so I justified not eating my healthy salad and ate instead what was available in the office. I was a little frustrated with myself, but (for once) I didn't let it sabotage the rest of my day and I had a healthy dinner. In the past, I would have definitely said "screw it, I already messed up today" and would have not been healthy for the rest of the day. It's a small victory, but I'm slowly realizing it's these little victories over time that will pave the way to my healthy future. Hooray!!

    YES, you are right. I used to be exactly the same way and 40 lbs heavier. I had to start with the same step you just took! It's one bump in the road and not a drop off! That first step will turn into many more and soon you will take that few seconds to look at food choices and make the healthier one.

    I still eat candy and such. I CHOOSE to eat a fun size candy bar yesterday. Not because I was stressed, but because I wanted some chocolate. I didn't eat the whole bag nor did I feel out of control. This is the difference for me now.

    Congrats on your progress! I tend to keep high fiber cereal, banana or other fruit, and my soy milk at the office in case I don't have time for breakfast at home. Maybe doing something similar would help?
