Ten Years From Now

Tuesday, March 12, 2013

In ten years I will be 76 and my husband will be 86. Surely he will be retired by then! I don't think we will be in the home we have had for the past 45 years, but where we will be I don't know... Perhaps living closer to one of our daughters or maybe one of the boys, I wonder. Today I am beginning a journey after mastectomy. I hope the drains come out today. I am itchy and ouchy, and ready to move on with this process. I feel the need to exercise, and I am ready for the winter to be over. I long for warm sunshine and no need for heavy coats, gloves, or boots.

At 76, I am finally an acceptable weight. I caught the Spark and made it happen. Slowly the lessons began to sink in, and the fun began as pound after pound seemed to melt away, and I became a healthier me. I camped with my granddaughters and played with them outside, flying kites, canoeing, hiking and swimming. I have enjoyed the boys too, watching them grow into kind sensitive young men like their fathers and grandfathers. We have so many Christmas memories and Camp Nana memories of summer fun. I know that Nana and Tata will always be remembered. I want to be remembered as someone who played and enjoyed family fun, who took care of herself to be able to do things for as long as possible. To have lived life to its fullest unhampered by the past, that is my wish for the future even beyond this 76th year.
