Frustration buying clothes

Saturday, April 20, 2013

I need some new summer clothes. I went to a local store and tried on several brands of capri's and shorts. The Amanda style by Gloria Vanderbilt fit the best. I tried on a size 20 and it was way too big (great right?). I tried on a size 18 and they were a bit large (really great right?). So I tried on a size 16 and they fit nicely. Now I'm feeling really proud. So I go back to the display to get another pair in a different color. I hold up the size 16 and think, wow they look smaller. So I took the pair I had tried on and measured the others to it. The size 16 pair I tried on were about an inch bigger in the waist than the others.
Now for the record the numbers don't make a lot of difference to me. I have some pants that are size 18 and another pair is size 22. I want them to fit and be comfortable, but it is frustrating when the sizing of the same style varies that much.
Oh well, life goes on, I guess.

I have had the same experience with clothes. I'm surprised that a size Large in a capri exercise pants I picked up on sale at Gander Mountain actually FIT ME. I got them on sale, 40% off. I thought it would be a great thing to work toward reducing into them. Tried them on and wahlah! It's so nice to see XXL is way to big now. We can do this!!

Sounds like you are doing great Mary! I also understand your frustration on the sizing issue. that is why I have tubs full of clothes in my basement. I buy most of my stuff at Goodwill. Janesville is my favorite but I never try them on there. When I get home often they don't fit so they go in a tub until the day I finally lose enough to fit into them. Trying to get out a walk around town each day email me if you ever want to go with. emoticon

Nice blog - and I know where you are coming from. Have you ever gone to a thrift store? I go to one by me that is really nice - all are not so nice. I look for clothes and the cost is a fraction compared to the retail stores. Some are new, some gently used. Now some people are too proud to go to a thrift store - but for me it is a great adventure, not only for a new top once in a while, but for my apt also...

I know! A guy can go into a store and buy any brand of jeans and the sizing is the same. Why are women's clothes so different. I just bought some new clothes for my upcoming trip and I have 2 size 8 jeans and one size 10 dress. I also cleaned out my closet today and I have one size 30 riding breeches that fit and one same sized that is way too small. My shorts are all over the board. I have a size 14 dress pants that fit me and 5 pair that are too big and going to good will. My shirts that fit are anywhere from a medium to XL and some of my mediums are too small...uughhh......And I still have to got through my dresser yet!

Must feel good to try on smaller sizes. I always find the nice styles are in smaller sizes. emoticon

emoticon on the new size, whatever it turns out to be. Dropping two sizes is awesome!
I am going window shopping for clothes and will bear your experience in mind if I am tempted to try anything on.
    Keep up the good work!

Congrats on a new size. I think that brand and style have sizing flaws because I too tried Gloria V's Amanda style and could not wear my size.

Congratulaions on the smaller size clothes but I agree shopping for clothes is frustating. Glad you were able to get some pants that fit you.
