Off my Spark Break but heading into back surgery again.

Thursday, May 02, 2013

Yep you read it right, GOD willing and the blood sugar is not to high I will head into my first back surgery on May 22.

May 22 (my 52nd birthday so what better day than to take care of part of this back problem)the first part of the surgery will take 4 hours and I will have an incision done on the right side in the front, one surgeon will move my kidney's, liver and other things out of the way so the spine surgeon can get to the very bottom 2 vertebra in my back and separate them and replace the disk with a plastic kind of one(something like an implant only much smaller) this incision will then be closed and I will get to come home the very next any complications.

One week later on May 28th.........................

May 28th the surgeon will go in through my back and replace 3 more disk and put in probably one 6 in rod and 3 screws to hold that in place and I will either get to go home the next day or the day after that. Baring any complications.................

So although there is no other way to get my back straitened out after all this time (remember it has been 4 yrs in Sept since my accident) it will not require more than 3 days in the hospital and my recovery time in total will only be about 4-6 weeks.

So there you have it girls, you now know as much as I do and I am determined that this next surgery will not keep me off my favorite site and will not allow me to put back on any unwanted weight.

I will go back to Springdale next week for all my pre-op work, to be refitted for my back brace and to learn how to use my muscle stimulator and my cold pack.

Then one shining light at the end of this tunnel is that it looks like there is a light at the end of the tunnel finally.

There you are! One step at a time. This has been a LONG journey Nimsy and you have fought the good fight to get here where you are with each surgery and had many setbacks but here you ARE! Keeping your blood sugar under control sounds like your first and foremost priority so that you may stay the course for the next steps in your journey to the Nimsy that you have long sought and fought for.Keep on keepin on Wolf/Cougar (do you know they are going to be foxes now?)....You've got this! Look out world - Nimsy is on her way back! emoticon

    Yay! Nims is back! emoticon

Those operations sound daunting, but I know it will be a huge relief not to be in pain any more. My L5-S1 decided to fuse themselves together after an injury, (& I'm 2" shorter than I used to be) so I know what it's like to not be able to do much of anything. I've been doing water aerobics for about 4 or 5 years, and my back is slowly getting stronger, although I'll never be normal again.

Good luck! emoticon I'm hoping everything goes exceedingly well!

Keep your eye on the prize. When all this is done, it will be well worth the trouble.
