Water is Truly Amazing

Thursday, February 13, 2014

Most people don't give water enough credit, I know I haven't for most of my life. Nutrition articles and websites, including SparkPeople, tell you that drinking 8 cups of water a day will aid in weight loss and overall health, but I never really took it that seriously until lately.

One a side note, did you know that you can clean almost anything in your home with just water and a microfiber cloth? I clean my entire house that way, its amazing! But I digress...

So with my New Years Resolution toward health in full swing, I've been trying to follow the guidelines and drink at least 8 cups of water every day. In fact, I've been pushing myself to drink 16 cups, or one gallon, of water every day. In the last few weeks I've been slacking a bit though and interestingly enough, my weight has also been stalling the last couple of weeks. So today I made it my goal to drink a full 16 cups of water and I have to say I'm a little astonished at how much more satisfied I've felt all day long. Normally I tend to get pretty snacky throughout the day, especially if work slows down, but today...no issues. A co-worker even brought in a package of Hershey's Almond Kisses (one of my favorites of course) for me to keep at my desk (don't these people listen when I say I'm trying to eat healthier?), and I can confidently report that I haven't been tempted to have any. Well...not seriously tempted anyway. Wasn't there a movie called "Like Water for Chocolate"?

Anyway, drink your water SparkFriends!

I've heard that 1 gallon is the max amount (given normal circumstances) that anyone should drink as more than that can actually hurt kidney function

when I started SP 3 years ago, it was all I could do to get 3 cups of water in daily but now I often drink 8 cups and occasionally as many as 10.

thanks for including the beautiful water photo!

Wow! If I drank a Gallon of water a day I don't think I could make it out of the bathroom! I'm impressed. I totally see the difference when I drink my 8-10 glasses each day, I tend to eat less and definitely feel more hydrated.

Well, maybe that's something I need to try! I don't really like water, but if I put lime in it, maybe that will make it seem less "watery!" :)

    Thanks for the tip!

16 cups, wow! I find myself high-tailing it to the bathroom 20 times a day when I drink 8. I can't imagine doubling that! It's awesome that you can, though. Water is so good for you (as long as you don't drink too much at once--water intoxication, anyone?)

That's wonderful that you feel more satisfied with it. Must really cut down on binging if your stomach is full of agua!

Have a wonderful weekend! Enjoy V-Day with your honey!

I find that now that I've been paying attention to my water intake (thanks to SP), when I don't get it in.. I just feel off my game. I get tired, I get headaches, and of course- I get thirsty! LOL

Good for you for keeping at it, figuring out what had you stalled, and making progress.

I too shoot for 16 cups a day. When I was younger, I had a lot of problems with my kidneys and the dr told me I needing to drink half my body weight in oz of water. So, I do. And I've had less kidney problems since! Great job avoiding the chocolate!!
