Get up those stairs!

Must share a brief news bulletin: I am no longer sweating and out of breath when I climb the 52 escalator steps at the bus station! Woot! Woot!

I must explain the importance of this achievement. Last October, when I started my road to better health, I could not climb those steps without sweating and near death-like heart palpitations. I avoided the constantly stopped escalator like the plague. Sometimes I would even walk further from another gate with a working escalator just to avoid the climb.

I had already stopped climbing the 3 tall flights of stairs between floors at work in favor of waiting for the worlds slowest and oldest elevator.

I was in pathetic shape both physical and cardiovascular. I swore I would make a change.

And I did!

I'm sure it happened before today, but I truly noticed it today. Walking up the stairs at work, which I now ALWAYS favor, even in heels, I was almost running, while my boss was pulling herself up the stairwell and had to pause more than once. I noticed she was out of breath for some time, as well as fully flushed. Then, this afternoon - of course the escalator was broken - but I took the steps with aplomb. It wasn't until I got into my line that I heard people behind me entirely out of breath and not being able to gain control of their breathing that I realIzed I have achieved, truly achieved, my first goal: to get up those steps without a second thought.

It's a small win....I'm still not "in shape" but I am working towards a better tomorrow and happy to share my win today!
