Molly Shannon's Mom (Sally O'Malley) knew the truth -- you gotta move

Sunday, July 13, 2014

When Molly Shannon was on Saturday Night Live, she had a recurring skit inspired by her own mother. Its byline was "I'm Sally O'Malley and I'm 50 years old and I like to kick."

My daughter began calling me Sally because I had recently began playing drop-in basketball again. I had learned to play basketball when there were woman's rules and 6 players per side. It was a passing cooperative game. Barely any dribbling. Had to pass or shoot after dribbles.

My daughter was so amused by her too old mother relearning how to play basketball.

Last week I began teaching my granddaughter the nuances of shooting baskets. I no longer have the endurance to run the court for long, but I still enjoy the game.

I am now 60+ and I can kick!

I plan on saying the same thing in my 70's, 80s and 90's.

Thank you Sally O'Malley and Molly Shannon for saying how I feel. Even if it's humorous.

At some point, Rovers were added. 1 person from defense and 1 from offense were allowed to cross the middle line. I can't remember if Rovers were restricted to 3 dribbles before passing -- seems unlikely as it would restrict their ability.

Ah - another woman who remembers the days of 1/2 court basketball for women (offense on one side of the court, defense on the other side). Good for you for getting back out there and continuing to KICK!!!
