Hurricane Odile

Tuesday, September 16, 2014

It's 9:30 pm Monday night (9/15) and the wind is really picking up as well as the rain. The windows are rattling and it is all sounding quite ominous... and that is just the outer band of hurricane Odile going right over us. I cannot imagine what it must have been like for the people in Cabo San Lucas early this morning, which took a direct hit.

This morning I was out around town and took a few shots of the waves. That was 12 hours ago and the show hadn't really started yet. Tomorrow is the "big" day..

The road over the rocks:

Our favorite greek restaurant on the beach:

Zorro beach, north of our house

So far there are few reports of damage - one place had its windows washed out by the surf and there is bound to be some blowing debris.

Our internet has cut out only twice this evening... keeping fingers crossed that it will stay on as well as the power. Water is less of a problem as we have a big tank but we do need the pump (electric!) to get it flowing. My fridge is stocked and we have 9 bottles of 5 gallons of drinking water. The generator has been checked and fueled up, so we're all set..

Tomorrow is Dia de la Independencia (mexican Independence Day) but all festivities are cancelled - no parade for the kids. I do hope it will be safe enough to get out and get some more pics and I would also hate to miss our spanish lesson tomorrow afternoon :) We did rain check pickle ball.

We just got an updated weather report and the wind is gusting at 50 miles per hour... yikes! Can you imagine the waves and storm surge?
