Making 2015 my year

Thursday, January 08, 2015

A lot of good came from 2014, By getting back into the swing of things here on SP I was able to improve my consistency and make some real progress. I managed to get back into the 120s and find my motivation again.

I have even higher hopes for 2015. I'm starting the year only 3 lbs away from my goal weight (although I reserve the right to reevaluate when I get there to see if I want to go further) and I truly believe I can do it. Two years ago I was working off these same few pounds... but that was in advance of my wedding -- admittedly it will be more challenging without the tremendous motivation a wedding dress provides. Still, I want to get there and this time I want to learn how to maintain that healthy, happy weight.

It's also my last semester of grad school and I know that will bring its own challenges. The stress and deadlines inherent in my program provide me with a lot of excuses for skipping sleep, eating crap, and missing workouts. I want to do things differently and do a better job of managing my workload so I can balance it with my health goals. As an anxious person, I know the impending uncertainty surrounding the future of my career will also play a role as the months go by, but I will do my best to accept that as I go as well.

When I was in the throws of health excitement last fall, I signed myself up for a half marathon in April. It will be my 4th and I really would like to improve my time. I am a slow runner and it is extremely frustrating for me! I think that if I put in the work and follow my training program I can do it. So that's what I aim to do.

2015 will undoubtedly bring many changes for me. I will receive my MSW, I will likely relocate for a job (hopefully to Africa but maybe to Washington DC) and with any luck, will spend much of the year focusing on maintaining my healthy lifestyle and weight.

its inspiring to see how you're not letting the convenient excuses from your grad program get in your way!

Congrats on being so close to your goal weight! I agree that not having the wedding dress to motivate you makes it difficult, but it looks like you found other ways to motivate yourself. emoticon Good luck with graduate school.
