Hi SPARK Friends, if u are wondering where I've been the last couple of weeks, I was busy attending to my husband and best friend.
My Best friend
, My husband, of 34 years, Robert, went on to be with Lord due to heart complications last Saturday. We served the Lord together. There are so many things I'm going to miss about him. He was such a proponent of living a healthy life, he was my gym partner, going to gym 4-5 times a week. He always shared and even pushed healthy eating on me. Sent me and my grown kids emails containing many health tips and encouraged us daily.
Robert Alvarado's story:
35 years ago Robert had been delivered from serious drug use that had previously had him in bondage for many years. Aside from his drug addiction, it was because of a major crisis that he surrendered his life to Christ. At that time, he had committed a crime which was punishable by law but the judge pardoned him with 5 years probation and a court commitment to a recovery program. It was there that he had experienced a miraculous transformation and never once went back to heroin. He stayed and graduated from the program 9 months later and went onto a 9 month reentry program which he also graduated from.
It was in 1981 when I met my husband where I was an employee at a large county rehabilitation hospital. He was going to Bible college at the time and was on Spring break and had to take his mother there because of blood poisoning to her leg. I was introduced to him by another Christian coworker. My main impression of him was that he was seriously sold out to Christ as was I. If it wasn't because the hospital having to admit his mother we would never had gotten to know one another.
I too was wonderfully converted to Christ. I served the Lord as a single Christian and had prayed for a godly Christian man before meeting him. My life was a joyous one and I had a group of Christian friends where we devoted time to Bible studies, prayer, fellowships and evangelizing. I was made complete when I married my soul mate Robert. Although he and I came from completely different backgrounds we complimented one another. God had given me the scripture Ruth 1:6 and had given me a Missionary heart.
The highlight of Robert and my life is when God called us to serve him in Downtown L.A. It was in 1983 and we went to live in the Pico Union area of L.A., one of the poorest of areas where the median income was $6,000 a year. It was because of the love of God that compelled him to make a difference in the lives of people. God used him in a miraculous way where we saw many lives transformed. One of Robert's favorite sayings was "Mending Broken Lives" and we lived with and loved many people. It's where we brought up our three children for over 12 years.
Because of Robert's obedience to answer the call, many people have also experienced their lives being transformed. There are many who years later are pastoring in different cities ministering hope to the hopeless.
Robert had a Masters in Theology also and had also started the School of Ministry for developing Christian leaders.
Those years were very fruitful. Later we moved out of the Inner City and back to the area where I had been raised. Robert's concentrated on his family and concentrated in his last few years I life in helping our oldest daughter and her husband in their church that they are New pastors at.
Like I mentioned Robert was very much into health even more so than me. He completed my weight loss efforts even though I struggle with eating the wrong foods he would always share healthy alternatives with me.
He had several health set backs in the past 8 years where he was at death's door but always bounced back. My family and I and close friends thought he once again would cheat death so it was a great surprise when he passed away. As a Christian hospital employee put it, he received a blood transfusion from Calvary.
I know I will be facing many challenges with my day to day life without my soul mate. My children as well are grieving their father but we are confident he is in heaven with our Lord.
If any of you are up to it, send me some encouragement. Also I will be praying for the widows too.
