I Like Numbers

Thursday, March 17, 2016

When I was in high school, I failed Algebra 2 twice. Then when I was in college I passed with flying colors. I thought I was just bad at math, turns out I was bad at dealing with bad teachers. So now that I'm trying to lose weight again, it's turned into a numbers game. I'm on the Keto Plan, which is very low carb, low protein, and high fat. I have 3 apps on my phone which helps me keep track of everything. SparkPeople, of course, then Plant Nanny, which helps me track my water intake, and RunDouble which is a couch to 5k app. It gets a little complicated, but it's also turned into kind of a game, seeing how I can play with the numbers. I also like doing my exercising at the YMCA, so I can keep track of exactly how far I run on the treadmill, and how many calories are burned. I know some people don't like to do a lot of tracking but so far for me it seems to be working. I hope this time the lifestyle changes stick , because I'm ready for a major change!

There is a scene in the Jimmy Fallon/Drew Barrymore version of Fever Pitch. Drew is an actuary talking to a group of middle school students and she says, "Did you ever see a group of numbers and rearrange them in your head to make a more interesting pattern?" And this one kid says "She found my secret shame!"

Numbers keep me motivated too. I think they really keep me occupied when exercising. If I am on a treadmill, I'll be doing the math of increasing my speed, or trying to figure out what will happen to my calorie burn as I increase the incline. Works for you. Works for me. Good stuff!

    Keep up the good work!
