Got the All Clear from the Doc

Saturday, February 25, 2017

After seeing my doctor for unexplained knee pain, he told me it was just swelling. I asked if working out the major cause for my discomfort. He told me that working out was the best thing for me and to continue doing working out. I was instructed to take my pain meds whenever I felt the pain So, after 4 days, I went back to the gym. I had a great work out but of course, the pain was even worse. So I took my pain meds and rested the knee. As I type my entry, I am feeling a bit better. Unfortunately, instead of weaning off my meds, I have to take more.

Thank you slimmerkiwi for your input. I appreciate it. However, I am way past that point. I have had 12 surgeries on that knee including a knee replacement and 3 revisions. We discussed what I was doing while at the gym and he told me everything I was doing was fine as long I didn't jump or twist. I am seasoned at working out in this condition. Based on the doctor, the swelling has just gotten worse and to continue to work out because its helping, He said be patient, continue working out, take my meds, and the swelling will improve over time.

Did your Dr suggest exercise which could help your knee and what to steer away from for the time being? If not, you might benefit from the input of Physiotherapist so you don't 'do further damage!

My g/son injured his knee a few years ago. He has had 3 surgeries on it now. A Specialized CT scan revealed bits of shrapnel (cartilage) had broken off and was under his knee cap. Because nothing was done about it for a long time, he now has arthritis in that knee. His is only coming up 22yrs old. He also hurt his ankle at the time he hurt his knee. That was FIVE years ago. No x-ray was done. He re-hurt it a month ago. Turned out that he fractured it, just jumping up and down, and it was discovered he had fractured it that 5 years previously. He is now in a cast and not allowed to weight-bare for at least another 4 weeks. It was 3 weeks ago he had surgery - pins and screws in his ankle - the Surgeon told me it was 'a bad fracture .... very serious'.
