Here I am AGAIN! As my weight has continued to increase, it has become apparent my love/hate attitude with food and exercise has got to change. When I retired 3 years ago, I had been working 12 hr days, going to the gym 2-3 days/week and doing the OCCASIONAL 5K or half marathon. Since then, due in part to problems with my hip/leg, I became a couch potato. Oh, I do the usual cleaning, cooking, treadmill time, etc, but nothing like I was doing. My activity level was REALLY poor - I'd much rather sit on the couch and watch a movie or read a book.

Recently I decided to spring clean early - repainted a wall, scrubbed other walls and then decided to renovate one bedroom - moving things out, cleaning closets and drawers, scrubbing walls/woodwork, painting over paneling (that took 3 coats!!!! 2 primer and one regular d/t the print of the panels. LOL), then putting it all back together. There was a time when that would have taken a few days - now it took almost 2 weeks. Some days I just didn't have the stamina or inclination to work on it for very long. However, I did realize I was able to push through the fatigue and stress of painting in an effort to get all the walls done that day - don't like the start/stop problems that come with not doing that.

As I said, I have been watching my weight slowly climb on the scale and it has frustrated me at times, but for some reason, I just didn't get motivated to do anything about it. I HATE failure in myself, so TODAY IS THE DAY!!! I WILL get back into shape and get my weight under control. I have no illusions - this will not be an easy task. At age 68, my body will not respond as quickly or as well as it did a few years ago, but I know it can improve. People older than myself do it every day.

I have started a 21 day challenge with SPARK in addition to my usual treadmill time. Hopefully this will both keep me motivated AND accountable.

Here's to a brighter tomorrow. May God bless you all with health and happiness. HAPPY SUNDAY emoticon
