Deep water

Tuesday, August 08, 2017

Tried the deep water aerobics, along with some easy modified breaststroke, elementary backstroke, and side stroke lap swimming beforehand. Realized after 2 attempts that I have forgotten how to breathe while doing the forward crawl. So, after a little sputtering and small embarrassment, i moved on to breaststroke one way and then elementar backstroke the other way. Was able to do 2 sidestrokes, one on each side, but my weak side was much harder. Deep water aerobics was great. Was again, the youngest person in the class, so that was humbling, seeing how well all of the retired persons did at this higher level. Not embarrassing or self-conscious though. They were very kind and welcoming. I wish I had been able to start this at the beginning of the summer, but had to work on surgery first... 😊 I think this is the level where I need to be. A lot of core work and cardio in the pool, but not at a level that felt impossible or hard enough to deter me from not coming again. It isn't offered tomorrow, so I think I will go back to walking and do some chicken coop cleaning tomorrow, and then back in the pool on Thursday. 😆 On Saturday, I will give the "boot camp" a try, which is supposed to be even higher energy and more cardio. We'll see if I can hack that! In the meantime today, I will have some lunch and celebrate my 10 pounds gone! 😉

That is good that they are supportive of you there and they know what it is like to be out of shape and that is why they are there too. Better than being in a class and the teacher keeps pointing out how you are messing up all the time.

I started swimming laps this summer and was also struggling with breathing, timing and proper strokes. I discovered there are lots of great coaching videos on YouTube! Check it out!
