Not feeling SAD today

Wednesday, November 08, 2017

A conversation with a Spark Friend about gloomy weather days and winter blues reminded me to start using my Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD) alarm clock. It has a lamp that gradually gets brighter over 30 minutes before an alarm goes off. It's a lovely way to wake up when there isn't any natural daylight, much gentler than the usual harshness of electric lights.

But then I got a lovely surprise. It wasn't a gloomy day outside, but a frosty, cold morning with bright, clear blue skies, perfect for a walk with my camera!

The moon wasn't quite ready to give up her place to the sun....

the little birds were busy.....

and nature was beautiful in the crisp sunlight.....

3.9 miles walked then home for a well-earned cup of hot tea! emoticon

...and just because it's a long time since I finished a blog with a selfie, here's one from today...

Wishing everyone a bright and happy day!

I love blogs like this-posting pics of your walks, etc. ! I like to do that too! Very nice job on the pics! emoticon
I too, have SAD-no fun at all! It was worse when I lived in a northern state (OH_US) and has gotten much better since moving to FL. I can't imagine how hard it is on you with a lot more of those gloomy days. Glad you have the lamp! It does help.

Such gorgeousness! What a wonderful surprise to wake up to as well!

Very interested in the SAD alarm clock. I live in one of the cloudiest/rainiest areas of the US and, while I love overcast days, am likely affected as well. Good to learn about that.

I always love it when you let us tag along on your walks (albeit only in a virtual way). The scenery is beautiful. I love mornings, and you have such pretty birds there.

I don't deal with SAD as such, but my depression does tend to worsen during these shorter days, so perhaps it's related. I never tried a light box, though. I'm glad you have one and that it gives your mood the boost it needs.

Beautiful day Minnie. That would make me smile as well. I see a face in the Moon. I love sun rays. Such a pretty shot. You have interesting birds. So colorful. Every morning I hear a Mockingbird. Just chatting away. Isn't it nice? Just puts a smile on my face. it seems, birds don't have a care in the world. I like your selfie!

Omg that is a spectacular blog entry. I feel like we had a walk together. That's so inspirational to get me going. I miss nature in the city so go to the parks. You're in my thoughts today.

I wonder how I would do with a SAD alarm clock? I have lots of nightlights around the house so, even though I get up in the wee dark hours, I don't turn on any lights for at least 10 minutes and those are low.

You are an awesome photographer, Minnie!

Your alarm sounds awesome. I need to look into getting something like that or at least an SAD light.

I have a SAD light which is really nice to have living here because in late Fall and Winter we don't get much sun.

Loved the pictures! I'm enjoying being outside before it gets too cold.

Sunshine is always a nice surprise, after some less than sunny days. So is seeing your beautiful pictures. I too love the birds. I enjoyed seeing our bluebirds that have returned a couple of days ago. Your alarm clock sounds interesting. I use to have a light that I had in the garage I use to use on gloomy days, (yes we get those) I need to get another. Does lift the mood.
Great blog Minnie, thank you . Loved your selfie too. emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

Oh, Minnie! Your photos (especially the birds) are just wonderful. I was sparked into outdoor action by the sunshine this morning too - my hands were cold and I pulled my sleeves down to make 'mittens'. It was an absolute gift of a day, wasn't it? I'm glad you were able to get out and enjoy it too.
